I have just recived a letter from Jeremy Purvis MSP today.

best practice for taxis.
Dear Mr ...........
Following your email regarding the best practice guidance for taxis, and your helpful link to TDO and other government bodies, I have made enquiries with the Scottish Government
I have been advised that the guidance is currently in the advanced stages of preparation, and the final draft is actually in the hands of legal advisers before going to the minister shortly for a decision. this decision is hoped for by the end of this year, however I am happy to make your views known and have written to the minister on your behalf

The question i asked was when will the Scottish parliament be making the decision on best Practice as there delay was causing confusion amongst councils and taxi owners and we could not move forward without it.

Well hopefully in the new year we will find out what they have decided :)

Grandad I have played Bristow and won, when he came up on one of his exhibition matches, but was absently hammered by Andy Fordham

Now theres a name from the past :).He used to live near me and was an adopted Geordie.I remember him being a right old character when i picked him up once or twice(and he was sober as well  ).

Sadly he decided to turn his back on the darts world and the public eye and returned home to Glasgow(i think) .

Give me Wor Jocky over the crafty cockney any time of the day.

A lot of the darts players of today have a lot to thank the Jocky Wilsons of this world for.....

Back to the thread.

What do you chaps up there expect to be in the guidance?

End of quotas, base licenses, medical criteria, vehicle criteria, driver standards, Jockey Wilson.

More or less whats in the English version, but cheaper licences for drivers and operators, abolish the zones, choice of vehicles, lifting of restriction on numbers

Ah, yes. I occassionaly pass Kirkcaldy on the way from Edinburgh Airport, and if I'm asked about it I tell people it's the birthplace of economist and philosopher Adam Smith (now on the Bank of England £20 notes), where Prime Minister Gordon Brown grew up and is now MP, and home of beer-swilling, chain-smoking darts champion Jocky Wilson. :)

Poor old Jocky. According to an Observer article earlier this year he's living as a recluse in a one-bedroom flat on a council estate and lives on benefits.

Of course, you didn't need to dislike him or the game of darts to have predicted twenty years ago that he would end up something like this

jocky played a few games in dundee going around pubs playing punters, his last was in the dolphin bar in fintry,a regular customer comented on how crap he was playing and jockey stuck the heid on him,a very entertaining night that was,the amazing thing is most people can still name the punter he headered (george knight) but get confused with jockey and keith dellar (if thats his name)
