The Evening Standard (London)

November 22, 2007 Thursday

LONDON'S oldest taxi driver has been honoured after spending 60 years ferrying passengers around the capital.

Alfred Bluestone, 94, drove his first passenger in 1947 and his last two months ago. His cab was graced by stars including Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop and Dean Martin. Mr Bluestone was presented with a commemorative plaque at a special ceremony at the Public Carriage Office. Taxi and Private Hire Director Ed Thompson said: "London's taxi trade has a reputation for excellence and Alfred has played his part over the last 60 years to maintain that."

Well the cab will be going on ebay at a starting price of 99p or £50 for the fuel in the tank.
