Cab drivers arrested after fight over fares

The Bolton News

THREE cab drivers were arrested after a row over a fare escalated into a brawl.

The fight left three passengers in hospital including one man who suffered a broken leg.

Police were called when the scuffle broke out near to the Arc Car Wash in Albert Road, Farnworth, at around 11.30pm on Monday.

It is understood that an argument flared between one of the drivers and his customers over a fare.

Two other drivers then came to their colleague's aid but the dispute developed into a fight.

Three men were taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with head and facial injuries.

None of the injuries are thought to be life threatening and the men are in a stable condition.

Det Sgt John Fellowes, of Bolton CID, said: "There has been a fight and three men were injured. Another three men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested and are helping police with their inquiries."

It is not known if any weapons were used during the brawl.

The taxi drivers were interviewed and released on bail.

They are due to return for further questioning in January.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Det Sgt Fellowes added: "We would appeal for anybody who saw anything or who knows anything about this incident to get in touch with us.

"We believe there may have been other people involved who have yet to be traced."

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5740 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

will we ever know if these punters were being ripped off or they just didn't want to pay the fare? Maybe time will tell?
