Go up the road and turn. Put the meter on as you pass the rank. No arguments from a**holes :D

Then you could get 'done' for 'Failing to set the meter in motion at the comencement of the journey'.
You cannot win.
Oh well, there's always something to screw up a good plan

I think the rule was set up to stop drivers starting the meter BEFORE the journey comences.

You could only be "done" if a customer complaint is received and what customer in their right mind is going to complain if you start the meter later in the journey ?

Tell him to take another taxi. Who wants to drive a passenger you know is a bammer?

And who "decides" when the journey commences?

Isn't this by agreement between the driver and the customer?

Or are council petty rules now superceding even the laws of contract?

I have been pulled up by 'young William' for forgetting to set the clock. Fortunatly they became more interested in the passenger as he had a gun case with a gun in it. All legal as he had just picked it up from repair from Purdys. So they forgot about me. I don't think this happens much nowdays. As I often see cabs with their lights on with a job in. Normaly pointing up in the air lets them know.

As a matter of interest the guys got done for a three point turn, would they have done you for a "U" turn. I am just thinking that a London style cab can turn on a sixpence, or for you younger guys, size wise a penny.

It might seem that I am being picky, but there is a difference.

Carrying around 8-10,000 passengers a year, you would concern yourself with the few bams you will undoubtedly experience?

Understanding the psychology of how someone hails a taxi can save you untold grief. Better to bin the idiot than run the risk of the grief, and the disproportionate time and loss of earnings involved trying to remedy his actions. particularly when it is becoming increasingly more difficult to even get a response from the police, far less enlist their assistance.

However, your choice gusmac.

So, when did doing a three point turn become illegal? And where does it say anywhere in any legislation particularly where you can and can't do it.

As far as I'm aware there is only provision to ban U turns. And then only where the prohibition is clearly signed.

It stikes me that this is an instance of heavy handed policing. We can ignore this, but then policing will only become even more heavy handed.

The "bammer" quoted was in fact punters who complain about paying a few extra pence to go down the road a bit to turn. The description wasn't mine. After 11 years of working nights, I know as well as anyone how to avoid the real "bams". My point is that if you throw everyone out who complains about the fare, you won't make much money.

Then the offence isn't doing a three point turn per se, but making an illegal manouevre.

So, why the aggressive

Experience shows that such a trivial complaint belies a potentially more serious problem down the line. It's better to bin them when the stakes are low, rather than waiting for them to cause a further problem when the meter's racked up.

But hey, gusmac. There's no issue here. You continue running the risk. me, I'll just use my own experience to recognise the best way to an easy life.

A couple of fares lost for the potential grief saved seems a good deal to me.
