I think what happened is something along these lines.....

Driver is looking for one on the way home, punter flags him down and is desperate to get home, driver qutes silly fare to get rid of punter, and punter says YES.
I cannot see a 65 mile jorney on rate 3 going £250. GBC, what do you reckon.
If you don't want to use christchurch driver in comparision then you must accept that the london driver does not earn this every job.

I would imagine theres more to this story than we are being told.

On the meter Rambo.....

No way. £250 in hand before we leave.

I suspect the punter didn't really care too much as he had every intention of getting the money back off you.

If I was going 65 miles outside London, I'd have the money up front as well.

I would however run it on the meter, as then no one goes short.

65 miles would come in about the £190 mark.

If I was on £95 an hour, I would have retired at 36.

My lad paid 35.20 from o2 arena to Baker St tube stn on tarrif 3, his mate had another cab same time same destination and it was 40.00 how far is that journey GBC

Both fares are about right. Tarrif 3 being the most expensive rate.

Depends which one of the 5 acceptable routes the relevant drivers take.

Taxi's from the dome are done by suburban drivers who have a far better working knowledge of their patch than I do.

The same applies when you reverse the situation.

So basically the driver has done nothing wrong. A london taxi driver does NOT have to do a journey of 65 miles, because london taxi drivers don't do 65 mile journeys on a regular basis the driver has priced it at what he thinks it will be worth.

I also would get the money up front.

Like anywhere, we live in a free market when it comes to fares outside the MPD.

The driver could have quoted £900 if he wanted, perhaps he did'nt want to go that far east / west as he lived out near me?

I've been offered silly season trips to as far away as Sussex land and as far west as Thatcham in Wilts. Great trips, but at 2 in the morning, no thanks, I've got to get back to the top of Herts.
So I'll quote a price that would make the journey worth driving to the south coast and all the way back to London and all the way out to Herts.

Funnily enough they did'nt take me up on the offer.

Anyone who gets stuck in London after the last train, I'd advise you to go to the appropriate station rank, I'll guarantee there will be drivers waiting to bite your hand off for a trip in the right direction at a decent price.

I do Hitchin or Stevenage for £50, it's usually about £90 on the meter.

Not yet.

The TX1's going in for one last attempt to rectify the spongy brakes tomorrow at C&S. If that does'nt work, I give up, the whole braking system has now literaly been replaced.

On top of that, it's starting to hold 1st and 2nd gears. I'm not paying out for a new gear box if they can't solve the brakes.

M&O have a 3 year warranty on a selection of used TX2's, I'll probably go for an 02 reg from that collection.
