Well dawg, why not get the council to recall all the hired plates, and re-issue them to drivers who want there own.
The plates belong the council after all not an cab or PH owner who has some extra to hire out.
If a person wishes to put on a cab all documentation should be in his name and the plate, if he wants someone to drive for him/her they must register that person with the council be included on his/hers insurance.
In the Borders we have to do the above, and plate hiring is band.
We have a maximum age limit as well, but due to best practice this is being looked at, and one of the things being looked at is cars must not be any more than 3 years old before there first licence, there by bringing in quality control.
We know that your council will not issue a new licence unless its for a WAV but if the plate came off a saloon it should go back on one, under the new owners name, the BP and the EU info should help, and if all goes well with the Sneddon case you will have less to worry about.

PS Jimbo is a dafty and just waffle's on in his own world, I have been to Dundee many times as that where my first bitch came from balerno st of all places :lol: :lol: :lol:

Right folks...forget Renfrewshire because DCC has already said they are not interested........WE know who the hire-plates are but very hard to prove.........203020 boss asked for DOBLOS to be brought back........DTA (saloon) "PRESIDENT" when asked what someone travelling in to Dundee for the theatre or whatever in a wheelchair can do when after the show they phone any Dundee taxi office for a WAV they are told 1 hour,EL PRESIDENTE replied (much to the disgust of some councillors)"TELL THEM TO PHONE FIFE OR ANGUS" [-X [-X Great attitude !!

n a nutshell.....
no more hired plates...
no more saloons...
no more dads army holding the council to ransom...
no more drivers demanding deals...
no more bitching...
just a trade full of professionals supplying a service and getting a fair return on their investment =D> =D>

They have no choice but to be interested. This case is under appeal to the Court of Session.
Until it is heard, any attempt by any council in Scotland to force any licence holder to switch from saloon to WAV will likely be halted by an appeal to the Sheriff Court. The cases will likely be halted until the outcome of the appeal is known.

Hello Dawg, nice to meet you.

One of the things you will discover when visiting this site is the many contributors who know exactly how to sort out the problems which may or indeed may not be dogging a licensing area they have never set foot in, and in all probability never will. naturally, they all have their own agenda.

That and interference (or not) from central government, dft, oft, cia, mfi to name a few.

Tell them to wind their necks in.


What exactly is the problem in Dundee? Is it the fact that the council want all vehicles to be WAV?

I don't suppose many people outside of Dundee will really care what happens but it doesn't mean debate on the issue has to stop just because a bunch of councillors desire an all WAV fleet.

Whether or not such a decision will be deemed unreasonable or even unlawful is another matter but if you hadn't already noticed Jimbo the decisions of councillors are always worthy of debate. If it had been left to you Carlisle council would still been operating an illegal taxi rank system so I think we are all familiar with your way of thinking.

I have very few thoughts on the matter but those I do have are based on what is lawful, reasonable and in the public interest. They are not based on the interest of Councillors or any particular vested interest of the Dundee taxi trade.

How would I have had any influence on a decision made by Councillors in Carlisle in the 1990's, JD?

However, when Lincoln City Council were advised by officers to introduce an identical COL at the same time, I did have some influence, (in rejecting the idea) and can prove it.

The same condition that Jimbo Button, (no relation) wants to ressurect?

Yes they are and they can use any type of WAV they want, but Dundee are trying to move the goal posts,
I think the taxi owners will be fighting a lost battle as the council has already made up its mind, going against best practice and the recent disability documents recommendations, stating that there must be a mixture of all types of vehicles to let every disabled person have access from a rank or from the street.
As you will probably know, councils that have an all WAV policy are stupid, and that most driver will have had 1 or 2 wav runs if they are lucky, some of them none at all.
Owners should be free to decide what vehicle they want to buy and run and not dictated to by a complete idiots who more than likely never uses a cab


ANY type of WAV? Doblo's even?

I'm just glad there are no more strikes, as I'm yet to be convinced they help.

Especially when it's never a 100% turnout. :sad:

Doblo's are still in Dundee,but the only people allowed to put them on were those who were issued a Wav plate x amount of years ago.The council stopped new licences putting a doblo on so it now has to be a E7or Tx type car..etc
But if you put an E7 on x amount of years ago the council will allow you to put a Doblo on now,even though the council does not allow new licences to put a Doblo on..

look lads ! this 5 different types of licence has got to stop ! and don't you think that if everyone is an equal then the problems are solved ? the trade in dundee has only got itself to blame for the council imposing such a policy, and if greed was not at the fore-front of everyone's mind, and played by the rules. the status quo would have prevailed.
So let's stop wallowing in nostalgia and get this trade sorted ! let's be happy going to work..... :)

not GBC..TX_OP !!! And i previously stated in other posts dundee has 5 different licences...
1. hackney saloon
2. hackney corporate saloon
3. WAV hackney
4. WAV corporate hackney
5. PH.

WHO'S IN AGREEMENT OF THE TERM ...MESS... #-o
