Tribute to respected Lynn taxi driver
TAXI drivers paid their last respects to colleague Stephen Molyneux by
forming a funeral procession through Lynn town centre on Friday.
Mr Molyneux worked as a taxi driver in the West Norfolk area for around
25 years and, in recent years, spent time cleaning cars for his former colleagues.
A total of 18 vehicles joined the procession, which started at Lynn Railway
Station and followed the hearse to St Faith's Church, Gaywood, where the
funeral was held.
Taxi driver Ian Carson, of Hillington Square, Lynn, said: "It was a very
well-respected procession and we would like to thank the public for
allowing us to come through.
"Stephen was a decent bloke and this is something we like to do for all the
taxi drivers.
"I knew him for around 12 or 13 years and regarded him as a good friend
and confidant. He was one of the lads and always will be, I have a lot of
good memories of him.
"We all had a lot of love and respect for him, no-one ever had a bad word
to say about him and he was just an all-round nice guy."
The body of Mr Molyneux (50), of Providence Street, Lynn, was found
floating in the sea near Hunstanton cliffs in the early hours of February 4,
following an extensive search by police and the coastguard.
An inquest into his death was opened by Greater Norfolk coroner William
Armstrong last Tuesday.
Mr Armstrong adjourned the hearing so further tests to be carried out
after learning that the provisional cause of death was drowning.
