Cabbies robbed at knifepoint
A TEENAGER from Whitworth has been arrested after two taxi drivers were
robbed at knifepoint in their cabs.
The first incident took place after a man hailed a cab from Rochdale to
Whitworth at about 7pm yesterday (Sunday).
Police said that when the taxi arrived at Eastgate in Whitworth at around
8pm the driver was threatened with a knife and assaulted; the offender
made off with about £25.
Another similar incident occurred in the town at around 10pm.
Detective Sergeant Phil Turner, from Rossendale CID, said: ‘At the end of
the journey the taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint and a small amount of
cash was taken.
‘Shortly after that another taxi driver was subject to an attack involving a
knife and received minor injuries.
‘Following a police search of the area an 18-year-old man was arrested at
the scene in relation to the two offences.’
The teenager was today being quizzed by officers.
