Cabbie pulled out into biker’s path

Taxi driver Mohammed Ghafar pulled out from a lay-by into the path of a
motorcyclist who suffered extensive injuries when he crashed his machine.

Ghafar, of St Leonards Grove, Bradford, pleaded guilty at Bingley
Magistrates' Court, today to careless driving and was fined £150 and
ordered to pay £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

The court was told that he pulled out from the lay-by at Fox Corner,
Shipley, without indicating.

The motorcyclist hit the rear of the vehicle after trying to avoid the taxi
and finished sandwiched between his bike and the car bumper.

Magistrates were told the father of three had indicated but his vision had
been restricted by a large wagon also parked in the lay-by.
