whats the legal with this,

i picks up this bloke in his 40's, he had had a drink or two, wants to go to a certain place, gets to the destination, stops the meter, and says that will be 4 quid sir

the bloke say i payed you up front as i always do with taxi drivers, no sir, i said, lets be honest here you did not pay me up front, 4 quid please, no says the punter i paid you a fiver note when i got in, no sir you are being a little dishonest here you did not pay up front a fiver

i then set off at speed, and he said where are you going, to the police, i said nope, back to town mate where you came from, to which i dont think he expected, he then ask me to take him back and he'll pay, i said no mate, game over, no replay, i just wished i had took him further out and dropped him on the outer outer ring road, boy what a walk back
b*stard

I think it's all getting a bit confused.

There has been reports that locking them in the motor and going to the police could be viewed as kidnapping.

I think it all depends on whether the driver feels in danger. So I would suggest that's the first thing they say to the police, not that the mush owes me a tenner.

I think it's different if you are taking them back from where they came from, as long as you tell them clearly.

But maybe the best bet, if you can, is to get them out of the car and leave them where they are, providing it's not near their destination as then they have won.

Of course you wont get your money and that's a bugger, but there are another 364 days in the year to get it back.

Take them back to where they came from for me.

Going to the cop shop is just a waste of time, usually

If you get a phone off them, whats to say that it is not someone elses OR that it is not an old out of date out of contract whatever.

Had one the other night, back to yuppy land down Cardiff Bay. We get there and the fare is £6.70, and he says will you accept £2.65p. Umm Noooo the meter says £6.70, he says (I know boring) I have only got £2.65p, I says well in that case you had no right in getting in the car and I am not F*****g about ( bit of the old red mist) I will take you back to where you got in.

Starts the car off and all of a sudden he wants to go to a cash point, right says I, we get there and he amazingly finds a fiver in his pocket, so job done.

Common sense says you should get them out as soon as poss, the only trouble is when that situation comes in, common sense goes out.

As mentioned before in a posting some months back, if I'm in the least bit suspicious about their means to pay, I'll always ask for the rough fare up front.

Some people can get a bit offended, but not as offended as you when you get to the other end and listen to the bullchit they come out with.

I tell them that's life in London in 2008.

Our pda's can accept cards so I ask them if they want to pay by card but point out if they do there is a surcharge, funny how they often find the money.

But if they haven't either card or cash then back they go! If they haven't legged it by then

I got a camera fitted and have only had one very minor unpaid fare since.

Mine is an Xtron that also records sound but if Mr Chancer is trying it on saying "I paid already" then the camera might help him to remember that on this one occaision he didn't.
