It would have been better if he had announced a 2p cut in the duty.

It would have been better if he'd announce a 20p rise in fuel duty ......................... and then included taxis and private hire vehicles on the list of users of Red Diesel.

0950. Until the Budget is announced, it is not clear if the 2p will be delayed, scrapped, or implemented.

But what should be clear is that since Gordon Brown announced the 2p increase last year, the tax take on fuel has increased by far more than 2p. VAT is payable on fuel, including duty. Where fuel has gone up by 20p a litre, VAT has increased by 3.5p.

I think its now time to lobby our MP's to get the government to recognise taxis as public transport, and get them to give us a full rebate on the duty, just like the rest of the public transport gets.
What is the GMB doing about it, or the national taxi association. #-o :-k [-X
