Seeing as how the poles were so adept at cracking the Plymouth knowledge without having stepped foot in the place, I wonder if they could do the same in respect of the London knowledge? lol,

That's the beauty of our quality controls, it does'nt bar anyone from trying, we have black, white, oriental, gay, straight, and probably even a cross dresser or two as qualified London taxi drivers, but the best bit is it keeps the lazy and stupid at bay.

End result? The best and most commited Taxi drivers in the world. :wink:

ComCab have had their chance, I've an interview for Dial-A-Cab in a couple of weeks. £136 all in per month, and the circuit is generaly regarded as London's best, hence the reason I never even bothered calling them first off.

That's the good thing going to a Radio Circut full of old lads, the retirement rate is good. :D

Yes, it's the last of the driver owned circuits in London. It's grown into a muti million pound outfit, so the threat of an outside bidder buying in is always on the cards.

Some drivers would sell their Grandmother for a few quid.

I'll try it and see, I've yet to meet anyone who regrets having had a 'radio' installed, so I could be heading in the right direction.

Driver owned be bollocksed. The drivers have stood for minicabs being brought onto the circuit.

The drivers are to apathetic to look after thier own best interest.

>"Some drivers would sell their Grandmother for a few quid"

And that is what the board of DaC would rely on.

Well after many years of thinking about it, but never going for it, I've signed up to the Com Cab radio circuit.

I do well working nights, but after years of being lucky, I'm going to let a computer terminal play a part in that. It seems, as with society in general, people are getting more [edited by admin] and I can't be arsed picking out the decent one's from the chav's anymore, so I'm turning my hand to the city account work.

They're doing me three free months sub's deal, then I'll pay £18 a week, plus a £1 a job. I'll try it, if it is'nt what it's made out to be, I can leave, no contracts, no fee's.
Over the years I've often listened to the politics / moans about some of the circuits, but one comment that's always been persistant, is that they (the drivers) would never not have a radio in their taxi's.

So, we'll see how it goes, there's a delay at the moment due to the new Digitax terminal being rolled out, but if it helps nick some work back from Stalin and co, then I guess I should give it a go.

I'll keep you posted.

Have you signed up yet GBC?

This is what you will be getting GBC.

The good news is they work
the bad news is they are illegal to use as they are mobile phones

(1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a road if he is using -

(a) a hand-held mobile telephone; or
(b) a hand-held device of a kind specified in paragraph (4).

(4) A device referred to in paragraphs (1)(b), (2)(b) and (3)(b) is a device, other than a two-way radio, which performs an interactive communication function by transmitting and receiving data.

(6) For the purposes of this regulation -

(a) a mobile telephone or other device is to be treated as hand-held if it is, or must be, held at some point during the course of making or receiving a call or performing any other interactive communication function;
(b) a person supervises the holder of a provisional licence if he does so pursuant to a condition imposed on that licence holder prescribed under section 97(3)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (grant of provisional licence);
(c) "interactive communication function" includes the following:

(i) sending or receiving oral or written messages;
(ii) sending or receiving facsimile documents;
(iii) sending or receiving still or moving images; and
(iv) providing access to the Internet;
(d) "two-way radio" means any wireless telegraphy apparatus which is designed or adapted -
(i) for the purpose of transmitting and receiving spoken messages; and
(ii) to operate on any frequency other than 880 MHz to 915 MHz, 925 MHz to 960 MHz, 1710 MHz to 1785 MHz, 1805 MHz to 1880 MHz, 1900 MHz to 1980 MHz or 2110 MHz to 2170 MHz;

this kind of says it all I think, section 4 spells it out. a device other than a 2 way radio that transmits or receives data

It is not illegal to use a mobile phone per se. It is illegal to hold a mobile phone while using it.

I have an Orbit 2 that I use, believe it or not, as my phone!

It has bluetooth so voice dialling is easily set up. It has a touch screen with various key pad options. I can check train and flight arrivals on the internet without removing the phone from its bracket.

It also has Windows Mobile, which includes excel, powerpoint and word, and co-pilot sat nav with built-in GPS. I also have a 1GB storage card.

All in all, in the 3 months that I've had the phone I've found it a useful tool for running my business and playing with!

Providing you use it correctly, in accordance with the law, you should get on with it OK.[/i]
