With me paying 1.16p pl for diesel, whats the point of driving a diesel car, next time i update my car i might as well get a cheaper petrol one saving upto a couple of grand of the purchase price, £1.03 at the moment for a litre of petrol.

More miles to the gallon.

Will always get you home.

Far less maintenance.

Hi sussux, in what way is it easier to service, i normaly drop my oil 7-8 thousand miles. a friend of mine drove a petrol a few years ago, i remember him saying he was losing compression (whatever that means) he had done about 150,000 miles

Usually the service intervals are longer than petrol vehicles, also no need to keep on replacing leads and plugs.

The AA once told me that even if the battery on a diesel was as flat as a pancake it you would still get home as long as you didn't turn the engine off.

And diesels also get warmer quicker in winter.

I have been running my galaxy on veg oil at a mix of around 25% oil to 75% diesel And I have worked out that I am saving around 1.1 pence per mile so if I drive 20,000 miles in it over the year I will have saved £220 but I will have had to put some effort into this saving so I am wondering if it is worth it.

Look for the drums, or even better find some duty free fags and go and see your local chinky the chef will see you ok, they get it in drums as well

The 20 litre drums at ALL the cash and carry's that I have been to have been between £13 and £16 per drum.

The Treasury aims to raise £550m through the abolition of a biofuel subsidy in a move likely to undermine Alistair Darling's claims that he delivered a Budget for the environment.

Fuel producers, including giants like BP and Royal Dutch Shell, get a 20p per litre discount for selling biofuels. But this is being abolished, to be replaced by fines if companies do not meet targets for biofuel sales.
