If I can, I will knock on a door/ring intercom, its nice to get out of the car and stretch my legs. If I get no response, I call the customer direct, our xda's have customers phone num with job details.

Sorry but i agree with the council, no one should have to live with cabs beeping outside there houses all day.. most companies round my way have automated ringback now (thank f**k!!!) but i have been on the other end of the horn issue.. i used to live in an area with a big student population i had harsh words with many a driver for beeping repeatedly at 3/4 or 5 in the morning.. its down right inconciderate to people need to be in work in early and when you have to live with it all evening it gets very hard to relax in your own home.

Hi All

All Rochester Medway Council Drivers (PH + Hack) have recently been notified that we cannot use our Horn when picking up fares (day or night). With the statement also reading that if drivers are reported/caught using the Horn they will not just get a verbal warning, but a straight written warning.

This may not sound like a big issue, however for the majority of house jobs I have done in the last week or so I have had to wait ages. Eventually the passenger comes out and I get the usual "I did know you were out there". We are therefore obliged to wait for a bit and then knock the door. This sounds simple, but no one wants to leave their gps/money in their car. Also the bigger problem is that more often that not there is no parking nearby.

Does anyone else have to put up with this silly "no horn" procedure?

Get a dispatch system with call back.
