If? We ever get new Taxi legislation, does anyone agree with me that the word "Hackney carriage" which defines a "horse and carriage", should be excluded in favour of the word Taxi?

If a Taxi is to be defined as a vehicle that can pick up passengers off the street, then how would a private hire vehicle be defined or should both types of hire use the same word?

Regards

JD

In Scotland since 1982 the definitions are "taxi" or "private hire car".

I always use to use the term hackney carriage, but come the advent of this internet lark it's easy to write taxi.

Maybe the definition of 'private hire' should be a taxi that can only pick up pre-booked.

How About "Public access Taxis" (or PAT'S for short) for Hailing or Rank use and which must Display an Illuminated TAXI roof sign......... and "Private Hire Taxis " (or PHT'S for Short) " for pre booked work only and which must only Display Bumper Plates..the rule of KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) is always the best option.

Don't know why you need a taxi anyway skippy since you keep on bragging about how busy you are with your phone work.

Can't work out why you keep on complaining about punters not going to the front car on the ranks then =P~
