The instruction from most LAs is that the meter must not go on until the car starts moving on its journey. Some will take the chance of putting it on before they start.

I know some will argue that you are working and should be allowed to, but as you know when they ( customers in general) take xxxx minutes to find their money to pay you, the meter has got to be off.

I have been following this ..... are your meters different to mine... meters operate on yardage and time.... at the point of hire the meter goes on they are hiring your time as well as paying for the yardage travelled....... if you're council thinks any different Ask them why your meter calculates time.....

No I should imagine that they apart from tariffs are all the same, I suppose it is similar to someone hiring a car for say 8 pm and then not coming out until 8.15 pm by which time you could have put your meter on.

But having come to your car at a rank or having hailed it, I am not so sure.

Dont get me wrong I feel that you should be allowed to put the meter on ASAP, but niether do I want to fall foul of the LA.

The general public do not become a passenger until they have hired the vehicle.... they do not hire the vehicle until your clock goes on.... they are not insured by your insurance until your clock goes on( as a passenger).... simple as that. if you're council tells you any different then ask them to provide you with proof that they will accept the responsibility of providing insurance before your meter is engaged....ps.I am only talking about a hackney acting as a hackney..... not as a private hire.... totally different..

I believe the general rule is that when loading passengers wheelchair or otherwise the meter cannot be put on until loading is complete unless it is a booking and the customer has acknowledged your presence and it is past the booked time

So for a radio job you get no waiting time if the punter keeps you waiting for 15 minutes? :?

One of the ways you are hired is when someone sticks their hand out, and creates a contract with you. If they don't get in for whatever reason straight away, then you are entitled to put the meter on.

IMO same with WAV customers, when you have pulled up and you are getting the ramps out, then you are fully entitled to put the meter on.

WAV vehicles cost enough to buy and run as it is without clueless LOs making them less viable. Image
