Slightly unusual to have a quote from a Wolverhampton LO at the end of this, which is an official Warwick Council news release. "An excellent example of partnership work", though - who'd have expected that?

But not unusual for such an operation involving Wolves cars not to find very much - I mean, tints and a plate not affixed isn't much in the grand scheme of checking 27 cars :-s

Council joins forces to carry out taxi safety checks

Warwick District Council’s licensing team recently joined forces with Wolverhampton City Council’s Compliance Department to inspect out-of-district private hire vehicles operating in Leamington Spa.

Enforcement checks were conducted in the town centre between 9pm to 3am on Saturday, 4 October. The operation was timed to coincide with the return of Warwick University students, which typically results in an increased demand for taxis.

A total of 27 vehicles were inspected, and as a result, one driver was suspended for not having their taxi plate affixed to their vehicle and for having tints on the windows. A further two vehicles were found to have tyres which were borderline to requirements; but have since provided evidence that the tyres have been changed.

Councillor Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities, said: “Taxis are a vital service and are a huge support to the night-time economy, it’s not illegal for taxis, licensed by other authorities to operate across our district, but we must ensure as far as possible that these vehicles meet the high standards required by our Council, and we have a regular and robust system of checks in place.”

“I would like to express my thanks to the Council’s Licensing team and to the officers from Wolverhampton’s Compliance Department who took part in this exercise…a late night for all.”

Costas Cosmas, Licensing Officer from Wolverhampton City Council added: “Wolverhampton Council’s Taxi team regularly works with other councils to ensure that licensed drivers are adhering to their licensing conditions. This joint operation with Warwick District Council is an example of excellent partnership work.”

Further joint inspections are planned over the coming months.

And, of course, as some may be aware Wolverhampton has recently signed joint authorisation enforcement protocol thingies with about ten other councils, including Telford, Liverpool, Sefton and Nottingham :-o

(And other more low profile authorities often mentioned in relation to cross-border stuff like Gedling and Rushcliffe, I think (although that's maybe their own cars working elsewhere, as opposed to Wolves cars working there.))

But which all seems to be symptomatic of a flurry of activity since the Casey grooming gang audit back in the summer - and which actually underlines how enforcement hasn't been what it should be for years now - horse, stable, bolted, blah, blah :?

(And on a minor note, for years they've been saying their LOs are out every Friday and Saturday, but I think the 'seven days' claim in the paper above is a new one  )
