consultation
(4/12/2003)
The
Department of Trade and Industry, the
Department of Transport and Scottish
Executive are currently undertaking a
consultation exercise on the
recommendations contained in the Office
of Fair Trading's report on the UK taxi
and private hire trades.
Obviously
we all have differing views on the
report but it seems that few, if any, in
the UK trade are wholly in agreement
with it.
If
implemented, the report's
recommendations will have far-reaching
consequences for the UK trades, and it
is therefore important that interested
parties make their views known to
government. Below are links to
press releases and statements which
contain contact details with regard to
the consultation exercise, together with
a link to the OFT's report on its
website.
There
are no formal closing dates for comments
specified in
the official press releases, but Mr
Roland's statement says that that submissions
to the consultation should be made
before 12 December, therefore time is of
the essence. Note also that Mr
Roland's statement points out that the
full text of the main report will be
included in the next edition of Private
Hire and Taxi Monthly.
