London taxis advertise, so do a great many more LA's allow advertising on taxis, but in the oncoming months ie. June 09 York taxis cannot have adverts

today i hear of a driver who's taxi is in the new colour of black with Council coat of arms on the doors was told to take off a magnetic advertising plate advertising a business, the reason is that you cant have two advertising materialS on your taxi

so the coat of arms is really a advertisement for York, the driver removed the coat of arms and left the other advert on his vehicle

I thought the York Taxi association were in favour of the new conditions? Does this gesture of defiance from a disgruntled owner mean that York Taxi association does not speak for all? How surprising.

As a matter of interest does anyone have any idea how many members there are in the York taxi association?

Regards

dont know about york but crewe has 1 paid up member ,nobody here wants to run it because of all the abuse off certain drivers ,this as come about since deregulation and the rapid increase in hackneys ,the lack of rank space and the lack of earnings ,for some crazy reason they blame the taxi association for this and we have the added nightmare of our borough crewe and nantwich being abolished to become east cheshire along with congelton and maccelsfield so everything here is in turmoil we dont even know what rulings we will have to abide to ,c & n hacks (new) have to be WAV where as the others dont ,the WAV ruling in c & n is a nightmare ,ive had 1 for 6 years and taken 1 wheelchair passenger and that was booked ,its time for it to be replaced but im not spending 20 grand + on a WAV when for half of that price i could have a smart saloon which is all i need because the work isnt here for all WAV and we dont know what the new rules will be ,talk about a nightmare :?

Hang on in there Baloo, there is to be a European ruling over the next few months with regards to Wavs, so you could end up with your Skoda yet

Congleton are restricted therefore so I suppose for taxi licensing purposes you will have three zones. Several North East local authorities are going through the same phase and they have all agreed on a system of zoning.

I am surprised at this because I recall the Secretary State saying they wouldn't sanction any more taxi licensing zones and that those currently in existence should be removed. Perhaps I didn't read the small print.

The whole point of zoning is to allow the different zones to operate how they wish.

My exact words were, "I suppose" you will have three zones. I don't know what the three councils will do but unless Congleton agree to remove numbers control then my guess is that you will have three zones or perhaps just two?

So that's what I'm saying and there is no "in effect" to consider.
