It's your own fault you got a cr@p course cos you didn't contribute to it in the first place and you're still doing nothing about it other than complaining. As the old saying goes 'if you put nowt in you get nowt out'. The other thing is given the choice of a fast track training company or a proper provider most drivers are opting for the fast track method so their own actions are devaluing the qualification.
If you're not happy with the course ask your reps to do something about it and come up with an appropriate course or is it that taxi drivers believe there is nothing out there that they can learn?
That's not the point. I have always believed that everybody learns 'til the day they die.
I was actually on a Fast Track Course, because I was being put forward as a possible future tutor. But because of personal circumstances & issues over the last year or more, I had to drop out. I will now have to do the course again.
As I understand it, drivers who have been in the trade for some time should have an accessment of what they already know, so that they are not wasting their time going over that knowledge, and do the course other than those points that they already know. But invariably this does not happen, because tutors, colleges etc would loose out financially if they adopted this true course of action.
What annoyed me was the induction course, which was to establish the level of numeracy & literacy for each individual candidate. Needless to say the standard of most applicants was poor, crap, ultra crap or just plain stupid.
So the tutor helped most of those.
But when the tutors, all of them, were also so poor that on several occasions they mis-interpreted the meaning of the questions in the numeracy section of the induction course that candidates were answering in an open debate classroom & I had to explain to them why they had mis-interpreted the question & what the question really meant & what the answer therefore was, is it little wonder that I believe the NVQ is little more than a 'Jobs Worth' piece of paper certificate.
There may well be good NVQ courses out there, but what I experienced was truly, 'the sight impaired leading the blind'!!!
