All drivers in the borough have current CRBs. County want us but require a CRB less than six months old. That means we have to spend another £36-odd to get a new CRB even though the current one is perfectly good.

Any views?

All I know is that once you have a CRB if you need another one for another purpose they are no good if they are over 3 months old. Nobody will accept them :?

Ask County under what provisions they are asking for one?

IMO they are neither an employer or a license issuer.

Councils can't keep CRBs for longer than 28 days, and why should we keep ours?

Parliament has decided that licensing authorities are the ones who decide if a driver is 'fit and proper', are the county saying drivers now aren't?

If they have an issue with a driver best they take it up with those that issue licenses not the drivers who have done nothing wrong.

That all said, maybe we should all be checked under the ISA provision, when enacted, and then it one payment and no-more, ever.

And as many authorities as they like can check that.

Sorry, to clarify, this is with a view to doing contract work for the county ie, children and vulnerable adults. I suppose on that basis they can put any conditions they like as an 'employer.'

Where can I find more about the ISA provision?

They can put on any 'reasonable' condition. :-s

The problem the trade have, and councils know, is that we need their work and wont kick up too much of a stink about it.

The ISA is the way the government are going to keep check on all that come into contact with children and vulnerable adults.

Once the list is up and running folks will need to register to go on it, and all the time they are on it they can work with children and vunerable adults.

Should something happen which means folks are removed, then off they stay. You are either on the ISA list or off it.

If you are off it, then you are f***ed.

Off course if you want to be arsey, and get the council in a knot, if they ask for an enhanced check ask them what legal provisions there are that allow councils, any council that is, to ask for one.

Cos if you ask the CRB hierarchy they will tell you that there are no powers that allow a council to ask a taxi/PH driver for an enhanced check.

Which is why they have refused to process PCO enhanced checks.

We have to have one for the LA which cost £38 but if we do contracts for the county we have to have another but they pay for it. Mine are due both at the same time and if i time it right our LA will accept the county one and i dont have to pay but the County will not accept the LA one even if it is only a few days old.

The firm I work with have contracts with a number of councils/county councils and no extra CRB is required.

Yet. :?
