East Riding are lifting numbers control from the first of April. New policy Qaulity control.

Burnley are keeping a restrricted policy likewise Congleton who have a special policy which also allows 16 wav vehicles. So far only three have been taken up so if anyone wants to go and work in Congleton they can providing you supply a WAV.

Are you happy with the taxi services in Newbury and West Berkshire? West Berkshire Council, the authority that licenses local taxi firms, is seeking the views of local people regarding local taxi services. Brian Leahy, the Council's Senior Licensing Officer, said: "It's six years since the last review and times and needs change."

The Council suggests a number of questions that people might have opinions on: "Are there enough taxis? Are they the right type of vehicle? Are they readily available at the right times? Are they easy to identify? Are they easy for all to use, for example, those with restricted mobility, the elderly, the infirm, or those with a disability?"

A leaflet has been produced, to assist this public consultation exercise, entitled 'Be Safe - a taxi information leaflet'. Copies can be obtained from West Berkshire Council and have also been distributed to local libraries.

In order to be taken into account, any comments or views have to be sumbitted to the council before 31st January 2005.

I believe the reason why West Berks are conducting this excercise is because they only have two wav's out of 216 vehicles. Expect to see some movement on that score next year, such as the council no longer licensing Saloon type vehicles.

If you live in West Berks and don't want to pay in excess of 20 grand for a wav vehicle I would get rid of your old car if you have one and replace it with something better, because next year you might find that when you get rid of your old vehicle it will have to be replaced with a WAV.

If they find there are not enough taxis there isn't a lot West Berks can do because they don't limit numbers, maybe they are going to subsidise taxi drivers.

Funny bearing in mind they de-limited about 6/7 years ago. The local trade even employed a certain Mr Maddox (Kearns's usual barrister), but the council did it right, thus the council won.

Maybe this has more to do with making HCs WAVs than anything else.

It would seem that way. They have to address the current trend in wheelchair provision sooner or later. I suspect the disabled lobby has been on to them and said hey! you only have two WAV's in west Berkshire, we want 202 wav's lol

Just a few corrections; Crawley took the decision to delimit before the OFT report, as did Castle Point which was even earlier 92000-2001?) Knowsley are going to survey

I think the original list of restricting councils was taken from the DfT letter to councils, and both Crawley and Castlepoint were on it.

Doesn't make any diference, it was clearly stated in the list from 3rd December 2004 onwards that the changes in policy were "since" "before" or "after" the OFT report, so unless he read either of the earlier reports of 31 November or 2nd Dec he should have been aware of what it said.

You would be a grand light if 85 - 90 came in. lol Maybe you should balance the book and offer even money each of two. I definately think 90 - 100 should be favourite. Perhaps you are being overley optimistic at 80 - 90.

Yesterday Eastleigh lifted numbers control in favour of Quality control effective from 1/7/05. This now leaves 60 councils or 17.5% who have yet to decide on policy. 49 councils or 14.2% have already decided to retain numbers control.
