Our LA has introduced a new temporary plate (duration one month) to identify vehicles that are being used whilst your own is "off the road" or has had an advisory for cosmetic or mechanical reasons*.

*When the car is hackneyed the examiner will point out faults and issue an advisory. The LA will then has the option of issuing a full 6 month plate or a temporary one to allow you 30 days to rectify the problem and resubmit to the licensing dept for inspection. If all ok a plate for the remaining 5 months will be issued. Not sure what sanction if it isn't to their satisfaction. (Possibly another hackney @ £62)

Good idea or bureaucratic(sp?) nonsense?

BTW at present Taxi plates are white with a blue surround, PHV are white with yellow. The new plates will be red with a band across the number in blue or yellow. No confusuion there, then

Seems ok, at the end of the day when you car is off the road having a spare motor available makes sense.


To me that looks like the council wish to only issue a shorter license to vehicles that have a long list of faults when tested.

I can't see how the council can allow a vehicle with mechanical faults to be licensed, but personally I don't have a problem with vehicles being licensed (for a short time) with a small dent here and there.

We have a pre test round here which costs £25, they will advise you on faults that need fixing for the test but "will not remove your plate for minor faults.".

something not adding up?£250 for a vehicle test can`t be right,must be the dearest vehicle test in the country,not best value,how much do mansfield and bolsover charge for a vehicle test?I think they are your nearest neighbours.

Mansfield charge £41 for a vehicle test.Bolsover charge £45 + vat?
dont think they can charge vat?looks like a refund is needed.
