Oh dear, has common sense reared his head again, for many years common sense has been sent to Coventry, shunned and ignored so others could get in the back way, I can see it now, the clan is retreating to lick it's wounds Commander Skull and Captain AliT will have it all to do to raise the morale of privates Gusmac and Jasbar.     \:D/

Gusmac you must be very pleased about this ,professor cooper from Napier university is a good man , same professor that gave evidence in the Perth survey  Dusty bin watch this space :?:

I've spoken to Professor Cooper, and I am sure he would be the first to tell you that surveys are only as accurate as the questions asked and the methodology followed to acquire the data. At best surveys used to monitor demand are a snap shot in time, which is out of date almost as quick as the ink dries. The cost of a survey also has a huge impact on how in-depth a survey can be. Spending a bit more cash could give you a different set of results altogether, it's about factoring in all the variables in an attempt to achieve accurate data.

Take rank surveys, for instance, has anyone figured in mobile phone usage and how this impacts on people waiting at ranks? And what about the expansion of Ph, perhaps this is a demand indicator, which is never looked at? How many people got sick of waiting in rank and started phoning Ph, because they couldn't get a taxi?

The truth is, bringing in consultants like Jacobs or Halcrow is all about justifying a decision, they, for the most part, have already made.

Whether or not you are for or against a restriction is largely irrelevant. The council doesn't care because you don't really matter.

Stationtone, Fairplay, Doom if you believe otherwise, more fool you, you are gullible to the extreme. :-|

A SUD is done by watching how many cabs are supplying the ranks, if the rank is never empty that means there is no wait times, which means no unmet demand.......hello.....McFly....Hello......anybody in there ](*,)

You have no idea what you are talking about. A rank survey on its own is largely meaningless. Try reading what's below again and educate yourself.

Have you ever seen a SUD being done?

It has folks marking boards to see how long wait times are, if there are no wait times there's no demand, how hard is that to grasp, it's not a Columbian election by AK47 ffs #-o

You can make all the stupid comments you like and display your ignorance to all in-sundry but my statement is the truth, and not just as I, see it. Why don't you do some research and find out for yourselves? I spoke to Professor Cooper about the accuracy of surveys to some length. :-|

And he'd know? he personally sat on the corner watching the ranks then?

Once again, someone sits and watches, records the data and makes a report, or are you suggesting we should put a bloke on every road just incase the bloke at the back of the Brookside estate needs a Hack outside his door and there ain't one

I've gone one better. I was once involved in a survey, setting it up, carrying it out compiling and analysing the data. What you are talking about is a simple observational study with clickers and a stop watch.

How about a questionnaire carried out by asking people waiting at ranks or perhaps acquiring the taxi companies phone data?

Professor Cooper even suggested following the same methodology as Halcrow, but monitoring the ranks at different times. You could then present your data as being a more up-to-date survey.

The truth is Doom, you don't have a fecking clue. #-o
