I pay £240 per week everything paid for but fuel and i have the car 24/7.
Radio paid on top
So £45 per day for 12hrs is a bit extreme to me. :? :?

There is no agument Dusty. As it stands, Taxis are restricted in Edinburgh, and realistically if you want a Plate, you have to buy in. I was only stating what the facts were as far as the Trade in Edinburgh is concerned. The rules of the game were in place long before I got involved. I had two choices, rent or buy in. I rented for 10 years, and 4 years ago I bought in. Now, if you want to agree with Skull and demonise folk for doing this, then fine.

Who's "demonising" folk? It was you who made a meaningless comparison to an extremely short-term commercial vehicle rental.

I was comparing a long-term rental to the costs of long-term ownership, as any committed taxi driver should do.

And pointing out the substantial financial distortion introduced by the cost of the plate via restricted numbers.

If you don't think pointing all this out is legitimate then too bad.

The system isn't set in stone, ie just like any other political policy or law. It's subject to discussion and possible change, much as you may dislike the thought of that.

But that's the risk you took when you bought in.

45 per day that's nothing
I now few lads down oxford who are paying 250 per week 12hrs shift per day or for 247 its 400 per week the renter pays fuel expences insurance everything the owner just gets rent after each week.
But the way the 247 renters make there wage is they drive one shift them selves and have a driver for the over shift.

the 45 per day is actually 45 per 12 hour dayshift though, not for an exclusive. a weekly rental in edinburgh for a nighshift would be around £300ish for 6 nights or £200 for 5 days - something around those figures anyway. although i believe there's those tow truck guys that rent out tx1's on an exclusive for about £250/week? but they're streetcabs.

A rental driver doesn't have to pay their own insurance. It's the first I've heard of a rental driver paying his own insurance.

One company in my borough charge drivers £4.20 per shift for insurance.
