There is no agument Dusty. As it stands, Taxis are restricted in Edinburgh, and realistically if you want a Plate, you have to buy in. I was only stating what the facts were as far as the Trade in Edinburgh is concerned. The rules of the game were in place long before I got involved. I had two choices, rent or buy in. I rented for 10 years, and 4 years ago I bought in. Now, if you want to agree with Skull and demonise folk for doing this, then fine.
Who's "demonising" folk? It was you who made a meaningless comparison to an extremely short-term commercial vehicle rental.
I was comparing a long-term rental to the costs of long-term ownership, as any committed taxi driver should do.
And pointing out the substantial financial distortion introduced by the cost of the plate via restricted numbers.
If you don't think pointing all this out is legitimate then too bad.
The system isn't set in stone, ie just like any other political policy or law. It's subject to discussion and possible change, much as you may dislike the thought of that.
But that's the risk you took when you bought in.
