Unfortunately that's how much of the world operates and it's difficult to know what to do in such situation other than to keep quiet and just grin and bear it.

That's all well good until something happens then you find you're not covered by your insurance. Check with your insurance company, get it in writing from them that you're actually covered to push patients in wheelchairs from inside the hospital to your vehicle

Yes, but perhaps lose your job for creating waves?

And clearly the trade reps and bigwigs like CC and Sussex just think you should grin and bear it, so what chance the driver at the bottom of the pile?

Don't create waves unless you discover you're not insured :D

On each occassion particularly out of hours, the men on reception are security men and who plainly to refuse to handle the package and insist we deliver to the necessary departments. Bearing in mind we could pick up germs and viruses , and more importantly be TAKING IN viruses and germs to a sterile environment. Your views would be appreciated !!!!

Christ, i used to courier travel vaccines around the country and often had them in our fridge at home, every nasty variety you can name

DOES THAT MEAN YOU WERE RIGHT IN DOING SO ???

no-one said i was wrong

you dont sound as if you want the work, can you not find alternative employment?

mind you if the ambulance man you had the ruck with reported you to his bosses your firm could lose the whole contract

Wear your id badge and take it to the department......if you think you should be paid extra for doing this type of work....go tell your boss who may well ask you if this really is the job for you.

Captain Cab !!! I don't know many people that do something 'work related' for a non financial reason. My boss in turn takes on a hospital contract not for charitable reasons but for financial gains !!! Paid extra for this type of work ???????? No....... just paid the amount due for the work done from start to finish ( ie metered from start to finish) !!!

FFS, having been on a circuit in Brighton that has had the Hospital contract for 38 of the 39yrs I have been on it, and delivered everything from Xrays to a fetus at one time to London, safe in the knowledge that I was ensured by my insurance company(Westminster) that I was covered to carry anything in connection with my business, if you are paid the metered rate from start to finish what is the problem? take whatever you have to wherever you are told to take it!
As others have said I realy think you should think about a change of career.

A porter should be available for all these jobs it is his job. However trying to find one, or having a number to ring one often means you are stood around for ages waiting, its your time, on Hospital work you are often on a fixed price. I used to bite the bullet and do it myself, to save MY time. Remember if you dont want to do it, you dont have to, but someone else (your competitors) will.

However since the Birmingham and Manchester incidents I think we all have to sharpen our pencil's Insurance wise.

If ambulance control book you to take a patient to a specific unit or clinic, some of which dont have porters, you are obliged to take the patient to that unit, and sometimes get a signature for time of arrival

assuming you want paying for the job?

i used to do dialysis patients 365 days of the year, from 7am till 11pm, those machines never stop, patients go 3 times a week

now THATS regular work!
