Gusmac, I have no problem with lowering the drink drive limit per se. As long as the decision to make the change is supported by evidence. MacAskill suggests that thirty deaths each year could be cut to fifteen simply by lowering the limit. That suggests that if you had a zero limit, there would be no deaths due to alcohol. So why not go for the full thirty instead of settling for fifteen? It’s just plain stupid. :?

I agree. The measure is perfectly sensible. The figure quoted is without foundation, but it does make a good sound byte.
The politician is still a politician, after all

Gusmac, I think it goes deeper than that, the sound byte suggests MacAskill seems to think all the Scottish people are complete idiots. This mans a lawyer don't forget. What a patronising [edited by admin]. He needs a bloody good slap. :-|

Not all the Scottish people are complete idiots Skull. Unfortunately most have the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to politics.
They won't listen to long speeches or digest manifestos. They'd rather watch the x factor or strictly come dancing.
That's why we have the sound-byte. As for patronising, I think that goes with the territory.

Of course if they ban cars and road transport in general this will save 186 lives per year in Scotland.

Typical English attitude. You're right and the rest of the world is wrong.

the article doesnt appear to state what the european drink drive level is?

a quite bizarre omission.

It varies a bit, but most of Europe use the same limit as has been proposed here.

Exactly......it seems to me the scottish government have proved to be lacking in their explanation, and the press havent done a job that you managed in a few mouse clicks......end result no story.

However, if the scots change theirs and the rest of the UK dont? hmmm.....it would mean someone drinking beer in longtown would potentially leave a pub on his 1 mile journey home to Scotland sober by English standards.....but bladdered by Scottish standards?

The above, coupled with the omission of the euro figures tells me the scots government are playing games........and perhaps gary is right?

The SNP run Scottish parliament twist things to suit, their economy with the truth or genuine facts is becoming about as legendary as it is laughable, they'd lie in their sleep. Ecknocchios nose is about as long as the planned length of the new forth bridge. :---)
