Shall we ask the multitude of P/T workers who cant do 40 hours a week if they are as distraught as you are?
in my experience its usually P/time with the option of extra hours as needed, if we apply that to your employment model a full timer would be asked to work 50+ hours when needed, and dont forget (not that you ever knew) but some businesses need extra staff at times of peak demand, 40 P/Timers whose hours can overlap means twice as many on the shop floor, YOUR alternative could mean half the staff and empty shelves, stores dont hold stock now (google "just in time" (JIT) deliveries) so it arrives, its wheeled off and put on shelves, more going out through the tills means more trucks outside to be tipped - at peak times again....
