Same thing with the interruption of oil supplies from Libya. Speculators bet on a shortage, prices climbed and then, the unkindest cut of all, the extra supplies released by governments to fill the supply shortfall, were bought by banks and hedge funds for a nice little earner.

Can you blame them the higher the price the greater the VAT revenue and thats something they are desperate for in these recessionary times

And it's mugs like you and me that pay it !!

He maybe doesn't put it very well but he's right.
Loads of things which belonged to all of us were sold off at knock down prices.

That is established fact, boring or not.

sold off maybe but at the time it allowed millions to become shareholders in businesses and sometimes in their own companies, something unheard of before Thatchers days.......and as with the "right to buy" many who took up the option were staunch Labour supporters getting a foot in the door

and some of the "national" industries were originally created with private money.....like the railways and pits

How many would have bought, if it wasn't actually a give away?

Regardless, those who weren't in a position to buy or chose not to, got stiffed by those who could and did.
Now we are all getting stiffed to make profits for those who now own them.
