Having given consideration to Alex's decision to create an effective sh*tbin for Edinburgh posts, I now find myself asking what the point of posting is.

The trade in Edinburgh, in particular, seems hellbent on treating customers as a commodity, to be sold on; as just a cash cow from whom to harvest cash; and who exist to serve the needs of the trade. This is wholly contrary to every tenet of commercial reality which is for the customer to come first. For the trade to recognise that only by providing the best, most cost effective and readily available service can it win the respect of its customers and encourage them to use the service, which they patently don't.

The council has just delivered the results of another bogus survey. And lo and behold, once again, it got the answer it wanted. It maintains its restriction which negates every tenet of commercial fairness, and will maintain a shortage of taxis to ensure that a plate premium will remain for those privileged to "own" one, and so they can sell it on with with the council's tacit agreement, despite the fact that the Law says licences are NOT TRANSFERRABLE.

Throughout my time on the forum I have attempted to articulate real and serious argument about the politics of the taxi trade, and sought to address the issues from the perspective of the drivers, whose fundamental rights are ignored by the council, and the main taxi firms as well as the principle private hire companies.

It is clear to me that these attempts have clearly failed because every argument offered has been allowed to be met with a barage of infantile diatribes by the yahboo brigade that don't even rise to the level of banter.

No doubt Alex has recognised this, and I can see the owners' concerns that they would ultimately be held responsible for any defamatory comment made by the yahboo brigade, and they have taken the action they have.

But it remains illogical to me to subsume intellectual debate indiscriminately with the yahboo brigade's tripe, to not be selective, rather than just excise their vitriol, and them, from the site completely.

(A good first step would be to publish their email addresses to allow action to be taken against them. Indeed shouldn't that be a condition of posting on the site anyway?)

It therefore occurs to me that there is really no point in making any further attempts to articulate the real and essential arguments. Let the yahboo brigade win.

The lot of hard pressed cabbniggrs remains; they are still as severely oppressed by those who control the trade, their labour exploited by Scotland's 21st century robber taxi barons, aided and abetted by our politicians and a disgrace to a nation that needs to mature well beyond its current state before it can even begin to consider it is able to determine its own future.

I, and others, will continue to take the fight to the council. We are engaged in an interesting project now which if it comes to fruition will be publicised through the press rather than this forum. But that's for the future.

Meanwhile I see no point other than to leave the forum to the yahboo brigade, so that they may demonstrate to the world just how unfit these individuals are to be involved with the hard pressed Edinburgh public and to hold the licences they apparently do.

=D>

I'll give you that I have only ever drove with city cabs but I've drove with 3 different people in that time

And no, no family member has ever driven in the taxi trade or coerced me into it

Also, I moved out when I was 21, bought my first flat when I was 22 and never been back since as I've been with my wife for 14yrs now

Now away and [edited by admin] your dogs off, it's probably the only contact and attention you receive from someone/thing that shows affection for you

Bullshit! I have never witnessed a follower to the cult of the taxi owner quite like you. Oh and I noticed you missed out the bit about your father and mother and why you are so desperate to show everyone in authority you are their little disciple. And I also said a family member or close family friend that brought you into the trade, with you buying their plate.

Oh and that’s not your wife you are living with. That's your mother. #-o

So somebody as easily influenced as yourself, who defends everything to do with being a cult “city cabs businessman taxi owner” got here all on your own. Not on your very best day, all you do on this forum is to seek reassurance and to defend and suck up the arse of anyone you perceive as being in authority.

Okay then, if you’ve nothing to hide, and I am completely wrong about you give us your Victor number, and I have you checked out?

Which trade Jasbar??? the taxi trade??? The respect of customers.......they dont care. All they want is to be taken from A to B from a licensed taxi. Some want a quality service (city cabs) and others are concerned with price so they use PH.

A professional survey is done and because it doesnt agree with you its bogus. And that very non transferrable part which is ignored has worked in the favour of some such as you by selling free plates. How to bite the hand that feeds.....

You could always find another job where you're not going to be oppressed. Your use of cab...... is appalling. You're offensive and i think at heart not a nice person. And only you could link independence, the rise of the majestic SNP and the taxi trade.

Good luck with that. Thankfully you're a buffoon who thinks by having a daily article in the letters section of the Edinburgh Evening news this has somehow made you a celebrity and a voice to be respected and listened to.

Everything is everyones else's fault. You go on and on like some angry teenager. I just think life hasn't panned out for you like it should have with that ego you've got. You see this forum as a platform to demonstrate your intelligence when in fact you just end up sounding unhinged like Anders Behring Breivik.

I sort of see Mr Jasbar's point, and in an idea world folks from both sides of the argument would debate in a nice sensible and coherent manner.

However we are dealing with the taxi/PH trade, and none of us our angels.

But there is only so many times we can have threads that go like this.

Mr A gives a viewpoint.

Mr B says he is a c***.

Mr C says he is a c***.

Mr A says Mr B and Mr C are bigger c***s.

Well I for one hope you stick to your guns and desist from posting. The forum will be a much better place. Your usually mixed up and sometimes offensively worded posts are an amazing mixture of views and opinions that even after 30 minutes reading I still struggle to fully understand.
As an example I make a point about being happy with my rewards for a hard shift in the taxi 5 nights a week and you decide its appropriate to ask my tax contributions? So you want to be taken seriously but cant help being infintile with silly imature points that have a clear hidden message but are completely irrelevant to the topic.
You start of making a point, like you did in this post, then deviate on and on and on and on about the issues you continually refer to yet cannot accept that your views are clearly either in the minority or just downright wrong and question why your points are never embraced by those in power?
The fact is jasbar it is YOU that is out of sync with the taxi trade and you can bang on as much as you want about the issues which you do, but hopefully one day you might just get the message thats been booming out from here and elsewhere....nobody actually agrees nor cares what you think. Sad but true

Apologies for posting that twice.....Doh!

I understand what you're saying Sussex but he's the worst for abuse on here.

You can have your serious discussions/debates on here but what is the point?? You'd be better spending your energies trying to change the things you all moan about instead of believing you'll make a difference with a post on here.

The name calling can become stupid but there must be room to have some fun.

Hssc....he'll be back.

I think it’s simpler than even that. If someone challenges the norms of a situation by pointing to the inconvenient truth, you can expect to be attacked by those who don’t want to believe it. The yahboo boys are, for the most part, just kidding themselves on or living in denial of a reality from which they would rather escape.

So in their minds at least, it’s either not happening or we’ve got it all wrong.

Skull, I'm hoping you're at the wind up. You and Jizzy are in the minority and I actually don't blame you for going down the we're right and everyone's an idiot route because you have nothing else left. The rest of the trade disagrees, surveys say no and yet you plough on with the same failed argument.

Your weak link is Jasbar and you know it. He's far too bitter and this clouds him from having a reasoned debate. He's also been discredited like yourself abusing the plate system through selfish profit.

You and the Jizz visited the island of denial a good few years back and realised you had found importance in your own mind so are dossing there forever.

On the contrary, our argument concerning restriction or de-restriction not working with Ph expanding to meet demand, and the taxi trade losing its market share to its competitors is a proven fact, because you are living it, the airport contract falling into the hands of ECPH, being a case in point.

I'm not making any of this up. Your trade is fu*ked. How long do you think your average taxi "owner" would last without his driver?

And why should anyone paying in the region of £300 a week to drive a taxi, be denied access to his own vehicle?

Come on now Artur, it's time to wake the fu*k up, don't you think?

Oh and Artur, you only need to look at Job's totals over the last ten or so years to understand where your trade is going. I could do over fifty jobs on a Saturday night and nearly thirty jobs on any week night. Your competition has grown up around your trade, and now you are playing second fiddle to Ph.
And you watch this. It's only a matter of time before they are in the greenways and on your ranks. #-o

Oh and Artur, perhaps you could explain how in 2005, Jacob's consultancy carried out a survey in a Gold Rush City, Edinburgh was bursting out at the seams and one of the busiest Cities in Europe at the time, and couldn’t find any demand?Image
However, in 2009, Halcrow in the middle of an economic meltdown came up with a demand for 30 plates?Image

These are what I call, inconvenient truths. :-|

Fair point skull but I see it slightly differently. The rise of ph gives people choice and the vast percentage of people I get who have experienced a ph journey tend to not enjoy it and come back to hackney cabs. Only telling you what customers are telling me. As for the airport if it is an EHPC contract why is it that it is only City and street cars that are there at the moment? No ECPH cars there yet but obviously if the EEN says it an ECPH contract then it must be true #-o

How is it fu*ked, as you so eloquently put it?? Is it because you and jasbar are not able to be where you want to be :D What on earth are you talking about re the question about the owner and his/her driver?? Thats like saying how would Lothian buses survive if their drivers were not there, answer?? they get another driver, simple, there are many many drivers out there and more doing the brief as we speak. I have been hearing these doom and gloom predictions for over 25 years and funnily enough the trade is still here and not dead on its feet =D>

What or where do you connect a drivers rental costs with some "right" to purchase a licence to own a vehicle to earn his/her living??

Have you ever thought that many many drivers (myself included) have NEVER wished to own a vehicle and are happy with our lot. Yes there are many who would want to do it but as far as I can tell you wish this to be a FREE plate offer?? Well as in many things in life its all about timing, at this present time its not going to happen

Interesting point there because I have looked at my average totals over the last 6 months and my average tue, weds and thurs job totals are(for 8 hours per evening) is 26 and for fri and sat (for 10 hours per evening) is 45

Now I dont think thats too bad bearing in mind competition from PH and also a much better night bus service than 20 years ago. Of course I go out to work, not sit about in garages or kebab shops bitching about the trade :D

Greenways?? well who knows but I personally doubt it, not because the hackneys are against it but because the BUSES are against it and they have much more clout than us.

Ranks??? Don't be silly now, there is not enough space there at the moment for the Central boys who used to live out at the airport #-o

And their you have it, hssc, you are a legend: #-o

If someone challenges the norms of a situation by pointing to the inconvenient truth, you can expect to be attacked by those who don’t want to believe it. The yahboo boys are, for the most part, just kidding themselves on or living in denial of a reality from which they would rather escape.

So in their minds at least, it’s either not happening or we’ve got it all wrong.
