I've just sent them an email asking why they believe "saving the planet" gives them an exemption from operator, driver and car licencing.
Part of their blurb is "

"FAQ
Is the ride insured?
As part of the driver’s registration, we check their insurance policy to make sure there is a third party liability coverage. Such coverage stays in effect when the driver is recovering cost and not driving people for hire or reward. People are free to donate above the estimated cost for the quality of the experience at the end of the ride.
Further we are exploring with insurers creating a bespoke liability insurance product designed to act as primary insurance in the event that the driver’s personal insurance will cover only a portion of or none of the driver’s liability associated with an incident. It goes into effect once the driver is matched with a rider for the time that the driver is on their way to pick up that rider or have the rider in their car. It is designed to cover driver liability for property damage and bodily injury of passengers and/ or third parties.
Such coverage would enable drivers to make a reasonable profit while keeping it substantially less expensive and better quality than existing alternatives. That in turn will encourage more drivers to join the system which provides more value for everyone using the system".
So they're operating for hire and reward despite having said in another section they don't! So if the company is making a profit, THEY are reaping the reward and need to be licenced! As much as we may not like AL and others, at least they are properly licenced.
