The website Reads...

Quote:
How do I pay for the service?

The system will estimate and suggest a donation based on distance and trip duration and payment can be made safely and securely through the app. During the beta phase, payments will only cover the cost of the trip and the service transaction fees.

To me that's Hire or Reward no matter how Little or How much you pay...Therefore Illegal in my book unless your properly Licensed to carry Clients for reward.

It looks to me like you pay although I'm not about to join to find out how much, perhaps somebody else who is based in London could investigate the charges

They are playing the "It's a Green Scheme and It'll save the planet from certain Co2 death" card....that's about the only thing officials turn a blind eye to these days.

+1

The "trips for donations" has already been tried and tested in the courts; it is more than "mere social kindness"; it is a business!

I've just sent them an email asking why they believe "saving the planet" gives them an exemption from operator, driver and car licencing.

Part of their blurb is "

Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

We are also a recipient of the Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Founders Award for the year 2013/2014. Being part of the Deloitte Institute gives us access to Deloitte’s vast network

It's about time these Institutes were made aware of their actions supporting illegal businesses.

http://funryde.com/about-us/

"building a profitable business that is a tangible asset to all"... 1st paragraph.

"FAQ

Is the ride insured?

As part of the driver’s registration, we check their insurance policy to make sure there is a third party liability coverage. Such coverage stays in effect when the driver is recovering cost and not driving people for hire or reward. People are free to donate above the estimated cost for the quality of the experience at the end of the ride.

Further we are exploring with insurers creating a bespoke liability insurance product designed to act as primary insurance in the event that the driver’s personal insurance will cover only a portion of or none of the driver’s liability associated with an incident. It goes into effect once the driver is matched with a rider for the time that the driver is on their way to pick up that rider or have the rider in their car. It is designed to cover driver liability for property damage and bodily injury of passengers and/ or third parties. Such coverage would enable drivers to make a reasonable profit while keeping it substantially less expensive and better quality than existing alternatives. That in turn will encourage more drivers to join the system which provides more value for everyone using the system".

So they're operating for hire and reward despite having said in another section they don't! So if the company is making a profit, THEY are reaping the reward and need to be licenced! As much as we may not like AL and others, at least they are properly licenced.

Company no. 8680904 formed 9/9/13.

That rather implies what they already have is not good enough, and bear in mind of course not all drivers are equal in Insurance companies eyes.

These types of ideas are a potential recipe for disaster and give the green light to any car owning perv wanting easy access to their favourite prey.

I wonder if the taxi licencing at TfL are aware of this project?
