Only 20% !
80% of £15 is better than 100% of £10.
In other words it's irrelevant what the discount is, all that matters is what's in the pot at the end of the week.
If licensed drivers can earn out of Uber, then great, if they can't then I doubt it will last.
Why do you think the spivs are so against it? Is it because it allows drivers choice, and maybe a few quid more?
As for Uber coming down here, the sooner the better.
I have to agree that paying a 20% commission isn't a lot.
You have to consider this 20% pays for the:
- card transactions and fees.
- use of the despatch software/app, which is provided on a 3G smartphone which they supply.
- their website
- weekly BACS payments
- advertising and marketing
- fraud and non-payment by customers. If you do the job, you'll get paid.
If any driver is unhappy with the 20%, then they can choose not to work for Uber, and instead get their own operating licence, and look for their own work, thus they can then charge what they like.
It's certainly better paying that, than a fixed circuit fee/rent, where if it's quiet and no work, you still have to pay it. This is what the spivs don't like. Uber is completely open shift, log on and off when you like. No one will ring you, wondering if you're able to work that night/where you are/when will you log on etc. You can use Uber to work around your other personal/work commitments.
Besides, some companies I do work for, just tell me how much to invoice them. I have no idea how much they charge the client in the end, it could be £100 for a £50 job I do. I'm not bothered, and as mentioned, it's irrelevant, as long as I find the job worthwhile for that £50.
Uber will be targeting Birmingham next, obviously the next major city. It could be a while before they reach Sussex
