Former taxi driver from Torquay denies sex assaults

A former taxi driver is to face a jury trial later this year after denying sexual assaults on two women.

Brian Timms, 61, pleaded not guilty to the two charges when he appeared before Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, at Exeter Crown Court.

Timms, of Arden Drive, Torquay, is accused of sexually assaulting one woman between December 2012 and February 2013 and the other on April 6 last year.

The Judge adjourned the case for a trial in July and released Timms on bail.

Mr Robert Linford, defending, said Timms is a taxi driver whose licence to carry passengers has been suspended as a result of these allegations.

If his license is only suspended then he surely isn't a former taxi driver. :?

Taxi driver jailed for sexually assaulting passenger in Paignton

A TORBAY taxi driver has been sent to prison for 12 months after admitting sexually assaulting a female passenger in Paignton.

Brian Timms, 61, of Arden Drive in Torquay, admitted intentionally touching a woman aged 16 or over and that touching was sexual when she did not consent.

He was sentenced by Judge Francis Gilbert QC on Friday at Exeter Crown Court.

Timms pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting another woman. That offence was not proceeded with by the prosecution and left to lie on the file.

The defendant's licence to carry passengers was suspended when the allegations were made.

Torbay taxi driver jailed for sex attack on woman passenger

Cabbie Brian Timms, who has been jailed for sexually assaulting a female passenger

A taxi driver has been jailed for launching a sex attack on a female passenger.

Brian Timms exposed the woman’s breasts, kissing one of them and tried to grope between her legs, a court heard.

Prosecutor Lee Bremridge said Timms – who was in the Territorial Army - had been working as a cabbie in Torbay, for ten years and had his own Top Cabs firm.

He knew the victim, who is in her 40s, who had used his company before.

One night in April last year Timms, 61, was about to give her a lift and told her she had "lovely legs" and had lost weight.

He asked her if she was seeing anyone and she refused to answer him.

She got into the cab to get out of the cold and he again said she looked fantastic and complimented her legs.

Mr Bremridge told Exeter Crown Court: ”He started talking to her about sex. He asked to touch her and she said no. He asked if he could see below and she said no.”

He then put his hand up her skirt but her legs were crossed and Mr Bremridge said: ”He asked her ‘to get her t*ts out’ for him”.

He said Timms, of Arden Drive, Torquay, lunged forward and pulled out one breast as she tried to cover herself with her coat.

“He bent down and licked and sucked her nipple. She was absolutely mortified and paralysed with fear. He tried to kiss her and asked her what sex she liked and did she like it rough.”

A radio call stopped the attack and she ran off and told her friends what had happened.

Grandfather Timms denied sexually assaulting her and told police the passenger had initiated it.

Robert Linford, defending, said Timms’ behaviour was "disgraceful and appalling" and he was scared of going to jail.

Judge Francis Gilbert QC jailed him for a year for the sexual assault and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Despite the newspaper's headline below referring simply to a 'taxi driver', presumably the perp was never granted another badge after he was stripped of it originally, and that the latest offence was nothing to do with taxi driving, although it's not 100 per cent clear from the report.

Sex pest taxi driver sent back to jail for groping another woman

Timms, 65, was jailed in 2014 for an offence with striking similarities to his latest crime. Judge decided he had not learnt from previous crime.

A 65-year-old sex pest has been jailed again for groping a woman.

Briam Timms, from Paignton, was a taxi driver when he sexually assaulted a passenger in Torbay in 2013. He was sent to prison for a year.

Timms was back at Exeter Crown Court on Wednesday after being found guilty of an almost identical sexual assault.

This time he bragged about his sexual conquests and cheating on his wife before walking up behind his victim, wrapping his hands around her chest and fondling her body.

He ignored her requests to stop until the pair were disturbed. He then begged the victim, 'Don't tell anyone, especially not the police'.

Timms, a former territorial soldier and no longer a cab driver, denied the offence but was convicted by magistrates. He said the claims were made up.

But the judge told him he had not learned his lesson from his previous stint in prison and attempts to help him change his ways had not succeeded.

The offence happened in Torquay.

Prosecutor Ms Felicity Payne said Timms started talking to the woman about sex and asking 'Are you into older men?'

The woman started to feel nauseous but Timms persisted by showing her pictures of the women he had slept with and bragging about his own sex life.

He then pinned the woman from behind so she couldn't move and sexually assaulted her.

The victim said in a statement she was left feeling 'hurt, upset and dazed by what had happened'.

His offence bore striking similarities to his previous conviction. On that occasion Timms started to compliment a passenger for losing weight before groping her body and asking her 'not to tell'.

Mr William Parkhill, mitigating, said Timms had 'issues which need to be resolved'.

He said probation were willing to work with him to help him understand his issues.

But Judge David Evans pointed out that Timms, of Abelia Close, did complete some victim awareness work in 2015 but had only moderate success and was still in denial about his behaviour.

"In my view you pose a significant risk of reoffending," said the judge.

"When all is said and done the only appropriate punishment is immediate imprisonment."
