No, I wouldn't take the booking as it's not a viable job.

How far did the WAV have to travel to the jobs?

As a PH he can charge what he wants

We had this situation and thats how we explained our pricing to council when asked. We had an extra £5 charge for requesting that vehicle type.

The equality act means that you can't charge a disabled person more than an able bodied person for the same journey.

But that would require a comparison job be done

maybe £11 is his starting price

And if the starting price is £11.00 for everyone then it is legal.

Thats ok if you in a city perhaps with hundreds of taxis. We are quite a rural area. If you live in the sticks you have to accept that its gonna cost a bit to get a car out to you.

We looked into this and we were covered as we were not charging like some do for loading time etc. We simply made a charge when requesting specific vehicle types.

Eg if there was 8 people our price was more as it was a specific vehicle request. we were not discriminating against people with 7 friends.

if an able bodied person requested a WAV but wasnt in a wheelchair it would have been same price. therefore no discrimination lol

Do you get lots of able bodied people requesting a WAV?
Does it make you proud, finding a way to screw the disabled over?

It was just an example.
Im not proud and i dont beleive that it was screwing over people.
As i said we would sometimes have to drag that vehicle miles to service a job. Plus we were at least half the price than a local firm that just did wheelchair work.
Now if we didnt charge the extra we simply would not have had the vehicle as it would not of paid to do so.
Then people would of been stuck with a not going anywhere or b paying a lot more.

Charging disabled people more is illegal and finding a way around that is hardy funny, let alone something to be proud of.

BTW Private hire is a book in advance service. Why can't you simply arrange the jobs so that the vehicle isn't miles away at the time?

I apologise for putting "lol" in a previous comment. It may of come across wrong.
When we started wheelchair work we were very conscious of pricing so we got advice with LA amongst others.
All our cars were actually hackneys. We had to be hackney due to having the name "cabs" in our name. We never used a meter once tho as people would not pay meter prices.
We got the WAV as many customers requested it. They were also surprised how cheap we were doing wheelchair jobs. To be honest the WAV was more hassle than it was worth but we wanted to provide a good service.
One interesting point you made was why not book in advance. Well i feel the trend has changed over the years. Not many book for later any more. They book for asap. Typically the vehicle would never been in the same area as the job.
The point i was trying to make was that if someone requested a certain vehicle type we made a charge for this. I know certain companies who charge to request a female driver or an estate car for example. Its done as the most effective way to work is nearest cars get the job, someone asking for different then causes dead milage.
So heres an example of a fare from us.
We charged £6 fixed rate from a village into town centre. with the £5 it made it £11
Alternative wheelchair only company £25
We were less than half price, which is why customers loved the service.
At the end of the day you need to make profit on a vehicle. What is worse? The small fee to request a vehicle type or wheelchair users having to pay massive prices?

Having to provide a 100% WAV fleet, like so many areas have to?

I see where you're coming from though

to be honest taxiing in this area is set in the stone age. Pricing was a minefield as there are only 30 hacks in the city. Everything is private hire and has been plot to plot pricing since time and memorial. We were just out the city and on a different LA but still had to go on plot to plot to compete.
I guess theres other areas that are the same but i know using a meter would be heaven lol.
Again no offence was meant, I just kind of understood what could of happened in original post.

I take it that you only do pre booked work and not street work.
