How much do you charge for admission to the club? Will you be reducing this to help the people on tight budgets? How much are your drinks? Are they the same as the pubs or are you profiteering on a captive market?

Most punters think that Taxis run on normal car insurance and they only have a normal MOT each year. Turbomongs.

BoIIocks again, I think you are right. =D>

If the drivers had any balls they would point punters going into that club to the nearest Wetherspoons.

Or the nearest off-license.

That woman should keep her hooter out of it.

Higher taxi fares ‘robbery’

NEW higher fares could ruin the taxi trade and leave customers feeling robbed, say drivers. Wiltshire Council has just standardised all the county’s taxi tariffs, bringing in higher nighttime rates and charges for journeys with more than four passengers.

Until May 7 there was a day rate, 6am to 10pm, a night and Sunday rate, 10pm to 6am, and one for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. A cab to Tidworth from Salisbury city centre used to cost £30 during the day and £50 at night. Now the same journey for five passengers will cost £50 in the day, £72 between 10pm and 2.30am, and £96 between 2.30am and 6am — almost double what it used to cost.

The rates will stay the same for four or fewer passengers during the day and before 2.30am. Critics fear it could encourage people to drinkdrive or walk home late at night, putting vulnerable people in danger.

On-Line City Cabs operations manager Paul Humphries said: “The nighttime tariff after 2.30am and for more than four passengers is potentially going to ruin the taxi trade, discourage people from coming into our city and make the passengers that do travel feel like they have been legally robbed.”

The council says the new system will help passengers know the maximum they can be charged, wherever they are in the county. It says it consulted drivers countywide and the changes were agreed at a licensing committee.

Salisbury has the ninth most expensive taxi fares in Britain at £7 for two miles on the basic rate.

I bet in a few months when the drivers who are charging it now say, "we've had no problems with the new tariff and punters," I bet all the others start charging it and drivers rents increase.

Salisbury to Tidworth, 16.2 miles, that would cost punters £28 before 10 and 35 after, 50% extra for 5 to 8 passengers, if our prices where used, and they have mixed bag of vehciles

Scenario:

A regular passenger, an OAP, gets in to your Sherbet. You set off and engage the meter. An accident occurs in front of you and the traffic stops. The meter charges "waiting". When you eventually get to the destination the usual fare of about £7.00 is now reading £12.00 on the meter. Now, should I demand the £12.00 and call the Police if it is not paid? Should I discount to £7.00 on the grounds that this would be morally correct? If I do the morally correct thing, should I lose my licence for LIFE?

Bottom line, you can't stop discounting. If you think you can, you "need your lumps felt."

you are still burning fuel & sitting there while the jobs are going out, its not your fault,at the end of the day why should it cost you money then ?? i will never ever understand the minds of taxi drivers tbh , you are working for a living, its not a hobby

Just to kind of let you guys know about this, Wiltshire is divided into 4, with North, South, East and West Zones, I am a driver in the West and Salisbury is South zone. In the West Zone we always had 3 tariffs for up to 4 passengers and for the last 4 years there was no increase at all while the rest of the zones were on higher tariffs. They decided to have a consultation on whether or not to unify the zones and that was rejected but they planned to bring us all in line to have the same fares in the whole county.

This 2 tariff system is news to me as N, E and W zones always had 3 tariffs and ours in the West was T1 £2.20 and then £2 a mile, T2 was £3.20 and then £3 a mile and T3 £4.20 and £4 a mile, T1 was 06.00 to 23.00, T2 23.00 to 02.00 and T3 02.00 to 06.00, the new tariffs which were set up was T1 £3.20 start £2 a mile, T2 £4.50 £3 a mile and T3 £5 and £4 a mile. T5 and T6 are for over 4 seats but to save overcomplicating it I'm leaving it out.

We have a lot of OAPs who rely on us for getting them to and fro and we have a lot of MOD who use us too and even a pound extra could drive them away so we decided to knock a pound off at the end of journey and it has worked, at the end of the day we never had it for 4 years when fuel prices started to affect us so why should we take it now, we have built custom and the council have allowed us to do it the same as every other company.

They have also brought T2 in half an hour earlier and are running it half an hour later to 02.30, just as a lot of the clubs in the Wiltshire towns (Not a city like Salisbury) kick out, yes we need to make money but we also need to make sure that the punters still get into our cars instead of walking home.

I think we all understand that, but you and your colleagues are legally allowed to offer a discount.

Print up some 10% off cards and give them to those customers you think you might lose.

Because they only pay on the meter if they actually get in the cab.

Many many years ago, we had a large increase of 20%+, which in all fairness was justified, however we lost a lot of work in the short term.

Big increases are not good for the trade, small regular ones are.
