I'm new to GMB and this forum. I must say this exchange is discouraging but I refuse to be cynical.
I don't follow your logic about our Branch Sec. He must and has listened to his constituency and acted accordingly as you point out so where is the corruption?
We've launched a case for worker rights as Uber drivers but you want us instead to investigate our Branch Sec. Worse still you're suggesting Uber invwstigate and it would be worthwhile doing so as it might undermine our Branch Sec even if at the cost of the case us drivers are trying to take.??? Whose side are you on? You seem to be willing to sell out principles of solidarity to make a point about our Branch Sec. As a new union member I find that appalling.
As for engagement with Uber to divide and conquer - we've tried that and Uber refuse to engage.
As for the law, I really don't.share your cynicism. Good precedents have been made in the courts and this is a case worth making. I'm very grateful to GMB for supporting it.
BTW is it possible to carry on the conversation without resorting to insult and slander? If it isn't I won't be responding further.
Insult and slander

slander is spoken dear boy

insult ...............where just opinions
UBER wont engage bollox i know they will and have
As others point out your best targets would of course be established licensed proprietors let me suggest some
Addison Lee
The Keen Group
Tristar
All whom are in clear breach of employment regulations in that they require shifts and some even uniforms company insignia their workers are clearly workers under the direction of the company and as such entitled to Holiday pay employment rights etc
But of course to confront these company's would expose the apparent duplicity of the GMBPDB's Branch sec and several other officers within the branch i am informed
Confronting these companys would be a simple operation and for sure you would be on firmer legal ground than taking on UBER
Illegal deductions from earnings is a simple issue as the GMB well know they deal with it on a daily basis
I congratulate you on joining the GMBPDB and would hope many many more will follow your example with sufficient numbers again it could become a powerful force .................lets hope so

And of course i am very pleased to see you being prepared to debate on here ..................remember disagreement and debate is healthy! make sure it takes place WITHIN the Branch and all decisions are taken by the membership and all meetings are minuted [which of course means the decisions motions taken at meetings and that the minutes of the previous meeting are always the first item on the agenda of the next meeting where the meeting MUST agree they are accurate and then authorise the President and Branch Sec to sign them in the presense of the meeting}
Attacks on the Branch sec no not at all ..........if you live in glass house dont throw stones they say .....................and with an officer reportedly running a business from a residential property without planning permission breaching working time regs and employment laws himself the Branch membership might consider it appropriate to re analyise the situation urgently
I fail to see why the established proprietors are not the ones on receiving end of legal challenges now that someone in the GMB London Region has decided to release the purse strings ........................something they have declined to do for many years
BUT OF COURSE ONLY IDIOTS BELIEVE IN WINNING INDUSTRIAL BATTLES THROUGH THE COURTS THESE BATTLES WILL BE WON ON THE PICKET LINE ............................AND IT APPEARS YOU SUNSHINE WILL LEARN THAT LESSON THE HARD WAY
Anyway i wish the Branch success in its struggle with the cess pit mini cab industry in London and would encourage all drivers to get unionised to defend their rights and then to become the DOMINANT FORCE WITHIN THE INDUSTRY
WITH CORBYN coming ALONG AND THE REMOVAL OF ALL ANTI UNION LEGISLATION THE FUTURE LOOKS HOPEFUL
However in London the main danger is that parasite Tessa Jowell a grovelling tory assole

out of a very poor bunch i will be going for Diane Abbot ........................................the best and most successful days of the GMBPDB were with Ken Livingstone as mayor the Branch must do all within its power to get a NON Tory honour grovelling candidate for the Mayoral election
