I was waiting for those two! It was a different type of war, a war that you could actually win or lose.
The Japanese stood out cosmetically like a sore thumb, and its leaders cared about their own people.

Today we have terrorism and guerrilla warfare, they have people who look the same from half a dozen countries, along with leaders who do not care who they kill, and a war that is unwinnable.

From probably Korea, and most defiitely Vietnam on, bombs have solved nothing.

It appeared to me to be a "Political BS Question" when I read it! If you want to keep needling only for the answer you want, simply answer the question yourself.

To clarify, I would submit that the question can't be answered with simple yes or no, so the answer will be Political by definition. Whether you would consider the answer to be BS, only you would know.

Has bombing ever been successful? Yes. (I am not limiting my answer to simply the three geopolitical areas you identify.)

Was the fact that it was successful with regard to the object enough to make it legitimate? Abstain.

Can bombing inflame a situation whether or not the immediate aim was achieved? Yes.

Should bombing ever be considered as an option? Yes, with the proviso that other avenues are investigated fully first and continue to be investigated even if bombing has begun.
