at those rates they are charging over £13.55p per mile

what a nice thing to dream about then we could all work 48 hours a week instead of 60 plus and be able to fund a descent retirement !

Quick question, when using the Uber app does it not give an estimate of the journey cost at the time of booking ?

ie; you choose the pickup and destination and the app responds with 'Distance 12 miles, with surge of 4.9 your journey will cost approx £150'. Or do you/the app not know how much it will cost until journeys end, not even an estimated price ?

Saying that they normally would have paid £30, the 4.9 surge which WOULD have shown on the app takes it to £147.

Everyone seems to forget that poober are just another private hire company and can charge what they want. The app tells you how much you are likely to pay at the time and it's upto you if you accept.

So they knew (roughly) how much the journey would cost beforehand, accepted the price, and then moaned about it afterwards ! #-o

I am not sure that the customers would fully understand the implication/message of a 4.9 surge! I would bet my house that they did not say in print that it would be £160. Can you imagine any of them trying to work it out after they have had a drink?

It would appear that not many Cardiff drivers have signed up to Uber, on the back of that they are recruiting drivers from other Boroughs. Imo it will not work in Cardiff as it is not a wealthy City or with an overly large (population 330,000 ish). Sunday to Friday these outside guys are going to be massively disappointed as it is mainly students out on the lash, and that peter's off during exam time, and massively so at the end of their semester. The telling time will be on International/Concert days + the occasional Saturday when the City is really busy. Unfortunately our local rag is pro Uber, so I doubt if the bad news (and there will be some) will be printed. Imo Uber will work in very large cities such as London,Manchester,Birmingham, Glasgow,Edinburgh and say Aberdeen + one or two borderline cases, as for the rest - I just cannot see it affecting them very much especially once the horror stories do reach their ears.

As such I am not in the hub of it anymore (hung up my keys last November), but I will keep the forum posted if I hear anything.
