Maybe it's just me, but almost didn't read this, because from the headline I assumed it was passenger on passenger, or similar.

But halfway down the article it becomes clear that it's the driver who's been accused.

So I don't know if it's maybe just the way the Hull Daily Mail has framed this here, but can't find any mention of this on Humberside Police social media or elsewhere, so this must have gone directly to this press outlet :?

Hull woman 'sustains facial injuries after assault in taxi'

Police have asked for anyone with information to come forward

A woman was reportedly hit in the face while she was a passenger in a taxi in Hull on Wednesday night.

The woman said she was travelling in the north Hull area when she had an argument with the driver about the route he was taking her. He was then alleged to have assaulted her.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing after we received a report of an assault in Hull on Wednesday 23 October. It is reported at around 8.30 pm that a woman sustained facial injuries following an altercation inside a taxi.

"Investigations are in their early stages, and we would encourage anyone with any information to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 567 of 23 October. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

But I'd guess from what's said above they're not looking for the driver rather than information that might assist their enquiries. Presumably they have their man... :?

This might also have a cultural element to it. it might be interesting to find out what sort of language flowed from her oriface to provoke the driver.

That said the level of provocation is no excuse for violence and I think we can assume this driver will no longer be considered to be fit and proper.

Has a reasonable customer ever argued with a driver about the route?

Sometimes they make suggestions, but the fact that an argument occurred indicates to me, rightly or wrongly, that the punter was/is a nightmare.

Not excusing any driver who assaults a punter, but maybe it was in self-defense.
