(Edit - things have moved on fairly quickly since the post below, and that the MP actually did punch the man to the ground and then deliver several other blows is confirmed in the video link provided by Cerebrus below. And, of course, the video is all over the place now, so pretty unlikely anyone reading this now won't have seen it elsewhere.)
As regards taxi rank rucks this is pretty small beer in the grand scheme of things, apart from the fact that it involves a Labour MP
And no conclusive evidence, but the various statements and the video evidence available suggests that the MP decked the guy
There are numerous photos and videos all over the internet, but the link to the Twitter video below is the longest one I've seen, and shows the man lying on the ground, which others don't show:
https://x.com/harryteplowe/status/1850096014578929974Labour MP Mike Amesbury issues statement as police investigate altercation at taxi rankhttps://www.cheshire-live.co.uk/news/ch ... s-30239147"I felt threatened" says the Labour MPCheshire Labour MP Mike Amesbury has issued a statement after footage emerged of him apparently in an altercation with a man at a taxi rank. Footage of the aftermath of the incident circulating on social media appears to show a man lying on the ground and Mr Amesbury standing over him, pointing his finger.
The MP for Runcorn and Helsby, and former Weaver Vale MP before the boundary change, has now issued a statement on the incident, saying he "felt threatened".
In the video he can then be heard to say: "You won't threaten your MP again'. He then leans over the man, points his finger at him and repeats: "You won't ever threaten your MP ever again, will you?
Mr Amesbury said: “Last night, I was involved in an incident that took place after I felt threatened on the street following an evening out with friends. This morning, I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what happened during this incident.
“I will not be making further public comment but will, of course, cooperate with any inquiries if required by Cheshire Police. I remain fully committed to working hard for the people of Runcorn and Helsby, and am determined to remain an open and accessible MP for our community.”
Cheshire Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is being undertaken.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 2.48am on Saturday 26 October, police were called to reports of an assault in Frodsham. A caller reported he had been assaulted by a man in Main Street. Enquiries are ongoing."
The Labour Party has also released a statement independent of Mr Amesbury's, insisting the MP will "co-operate with inquiries".
A spokesperson for the Labour Party said: "We are aware of an incident that took place last night involving Mike Amesbury MP. We understand that Mr Amesbury approached Cheshire Police to report what happened this morning himself, and that he will co-operate with any inquiries they have."
