Totally unrelated to yesterday's post about the Glasgow HCD's meter time being several minutes fast, and the suspension stuff. But a broadly similar metering theme here.

(And came across this via Taxi Point.)

And worth recalling that Glasgow Taxis has the thick end of 1,000 HCs, and is the biggest fleet of black cabs in the UK. Or something like that :-s

Anyway, not really sure if this will make a lot of difference. In the grand scheme of things, at least. But a good bit of marketing from Glasgow Taxis.

Glasgow Taxis introduces meter price guarantee across 100% of its fleet

Glasgow Taxis has announced that 100% of its fleet is now displaying meter price guarantee stickers, giving passengers a clear assurance that the taxi meter will be used for every journey that starts and ends within Glasgow.

The fleet-wide policy is founded on three principles: safety, value and fairness with the new in-vehicle signage making the commitment visible to passengers, reinforcing Glasgow Taxis’ position that customers should receive a consistent, transparent service when travelling across the city.

The stickers, outside-facing and prominent in all Glasgow Taxis vehicles, read: “Pick Up Glasgow – Drop Glasgow. Meter MUST be engaged by law. Card Payment Accepted.”

The initiative follows concerns raised across the wider taxi trade about passengers being quoted or charged fares without the meter being used for journeys within Glasgow. Although the issue was not considered specific to Glasgow Taxis, feedback from the public and discussion on social media highlighted the need for an unmistakable guarantee that passengers could readily identify.

The proposal to introduce signage on vehicles was raised at Glasgow Taxis’ AGM earlier this year and received the backing of members. With the rollout now complete, every Glasgow Taxis vehicle carries the meter price guarantee sticker.

Glasgow Taxis chairman Dougie McPherson said: “Safety, value and fairness are at the heart of the service Glasgow Taxis provides 24 hours a day. By displaying the meter price guarantee across every vehicle in our fleet, we are giving passengers a clear and visible assurance that the meter will be used for all journeys that start and end in Glasgow.

“This is about transparency, consistency and confidence. Our valued customers should know what standard of service to expect when they get into a Glasgow Taxi, and our members have backed a practical measure that makes that commitment clear.”

Glasgow Taxis believes a consistent approach across the city’s taxi trade would further strengthen public confidence, alongside measures that support passenger safety and convenient payment options.

Earlier this year Glasgow Taxis announced an enhanced offering of taxi marshals assisting passengers at key event ranks as one of several measures being made to further strengthen customer safety. In addition, all Glasgow Taxis vehicles continue to accept card payment, with every driver a member of the PVG scheme managed by Disclosure Scotland, to ensure that safety remains top priority, matching what customers have told the firm is important to them via regular online surveys and feedback forms available by QR code in cabs.

Isn't that the law anyway? :-k

Indeed, Sussex, but obviously that's not how it's been spun :-o

So the rehash in the evening paper is just a bit of marketing, basically. I mean, read all this and you'd never know it was just a statement of the law, in simple terms. Except that when they quote what the sticker actually states it says "Meter MUST be engaged by law"

But the rest of the Evening Times's piece just reads like the circuit is doing something that's unique to them. Making a virtue out necessity, I think the phrase is [-(

(Not sure if the Glasgow Evening Times is still an evening paper only, but they don't call it that any more. But I do

And not sure either if it's "Evening Times's piece", or "Evening Times' piece", but whatever takes readers' fancy :D

Although I'm pretty sure it's 'readers' fancy' rather than 'readers's fancy', simply because the latter doesn't sound right  )

Glasgow taxis introduce meter guarantee for city journeys

Glasgow Taxis has introduced a new meter pricing guarantee for journey's within the city.

The company has announced that all vehicles in its fleet now display stickers promising passengers that meters will be used on journeys starting and ending within Glasgow.

The company said the policy applies across its fleet and is based on safety, value and fairness. Stickers are displayed prominently on the outside of each vehicle, so passengers can see the commitment before entering.

The signs read: “Pick Up Glasgow – Drop Glasgow. Meter MUST be engaged by law. Card Payment Accepted.”

The move follows concerns across the wider taxi trade about passengers being quoted or charged fares without a meter being used for journeys within cities, although Glasgow Taxis said the issue was not specific them.

Public feedback and social media discussions highlighted the need for a guarantee that passengers could identify easily, the company said.

The proposal for vehicle signs was raised at Glasgow Taxis’ annual general meeting earlier this year.

Members backed the plan, and the rollout is now complete.

Glasgow Taxis chairman Dougie McPherson said: “Safety, value and fairness are at the heart of the service Glasgow Taxis provides 24 hours a day.

“By displaying the meter price guarantee across every vehicle in our fleet, we are giving passengers a clear and visible assurance that the meter will be used for all journeys that start and end in Glasgow.”

He said the scheme was intended to provide a consistent service and help customers understand what to expect when using a Glasgow Taxi.

Glasgow Taxis said a consistent approach across the city’s taxi trade would further support public confidence.

Earlier this year, the firm announced an expanded taxi marshal service at key event ranks. Marshals assist passengers at those locations as part of measures intended to support customer safety.

All Glasgow Taxis vehicles continue to accept card payments and every driver is also a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme, managed by Disclosure Scotland.

The company said these arrangements reflect information gathered through regular online surveys and feedback forms. QR codes in cabs allow passengers to submit their views.

The meter guarantee applies when both the pick-up and drop-off points are within Glasgow. Passengers are able to see the sticker before a journey begins and are reminded that card payment is accepted.

Glasgow Taxis said the policy was designed to make fares clearer for passengers and reinforce its stated commitment to safety, value, fairness and transparency across the city.

Not sure if it's been changed, but Google's indexed it with an even more misleading headline :-o

Glasgow Taxi has introduced a new pricing system for journeys within the city

Glasgow Taxi's introduces meter pricing guarantee for journey's within the city

No, it's not a new pricing system =;

But at least the strapline has correctly included the missing 's' in Taxis. But, unfortunately also added an unnecessary apostrophe :-s

And also an unnecessary apostrophe in journey's :-s

But maybe slightly better than 'journies'. Which is incorrect. And which I used to use

But that's tonight's spelling and punctuation lesson over

Although there's another good example where it's obvious from saying it in your head that 'Glasgow Taxis's annual general meeting' wouldn't work, so the added s is unnecessary :-o

Although there's another slight inconsistenty and odd phrase that the newspaper has changed as compared to the original - 'within Glasgow' has been changed to 'within cities' :-o

So not sure precisely what 'within cities' means #-o

But it would work in fact if the piece was about Glasgow taxis rather than Glasgow Taxis, ie the trade generally rather than the specific circuit.

Thus the 'wider issue' would not be 'specific' to Glasgow taxis, because it's across Scotland more generally, thus 'within cities' :-o

Either than or I'm talking complete nonsense #-o
