I got a response today from the chairman of Cgulls local branch of the T&G today.
I quote- "When ********&****became a city, the cabs became all the same rather than zoned.
Several ******** drivers (not the T&G) appealed to the Station people to limit the amount of permits for fear of **** drivers swamping it.
The Station agreed & created a waiting list for the **** or any cabs without permits, including any new plates issued.
As you know T&G policy nationwide is for free & open access however our branch voted to pay a fee & to keep this waiting list (for now,T&G opposed new plate issue btw).
One of my mates received his new plate & bleated to me about his lack of station access.
I told him to join the union, recruit all the like minded, non permit drivers & change the local policy to free & open access if he felt that strongly about it. Im still waiting for his completed membership form!
As chairman, Ive got to go with what the members want mate."
I would still like to know why, after holding a permit, you were unable to renew it, but the response clearly shows the T&G policy of FREE and OPEN access, in this case however it appears that the local branch members voted to support the permits ("for the time being"). As the chairman pointed out his personal opinion doesn't count when the majority vote to form local policy the Branch adopts the members wishes.
I have also spoke to other Branches and they would do exactly the same in the same situation, a view which the Cab Section of the T&G would wholeheartedly support.
If you would care to furnish me with more info I could dig a little deeper, or you could just get in touch with your local Branch Chairman and see what exactly the branch is doing to support the Unions National Policy of Free and Open Access.
Thanks for takeng the time to look this up.
I gave my permit up beacuse i was in hospital when they started the permit system. When I came out nooner gave a dam perhaps they thought i was dead.
But if the t&gwu has a free and open policy why dont they get there members to have a free and open policy.
It a bit daft having a policy which discriminates against me when im just doing my job. If taxibank was stopping me the world would hate them. But as its my fellow taxi drivers noone cares.
I will leave you out of the last sentanve but you know what i mean.
thanks
