Diesel it's very disapppointing that you wrote this drivel.
I know you're not thick, just a guy trying to do his best. But uttering this tripe doesn't help.
All of the licence types you outline are restricted. Yes. But not for basic numerical reasons. But they are restricted for other reasons, particularly health and safety.
You could get a licence to establish business in any one of these market sectors, provided the location was right and you have the appropriate skills to practise. Taxis have no specific location, nor do they require one. And drivers already have the skills.
And, in none of them, does the council seek to restrict numbers artificially so that some privileged few can accrue a nest egg and use the scarcity value to hike rentals. To work a scam. Apart from corruption and self interest, why are taxi licences allowed to be traded in this way. Go on, you tell me. No one else dares to. Now, I wonder why?
What I just don't get is why you guys think the council, who are pathetic at just about every thing (the camel is just a horse designed by a committee syndrome) can organise your affairs better than you and the market can do.
Taxis are restricted, PH are mushrooming. Income is falling, already being diluted. End of ...
So tell me JasBarTay how you arrive at the conclusion that taxi numbers are restricted for basic numeric reasons? Most sane people realise that they ARE restricted for the safety of the public by permitting stringent licensing conditions to be met by operators amongst other reasons. They are most definitely NOT restricted just for the sake of having X number of taxis.
As for taxis having no specific location, they do; it's the area for which they are licensed. So like other licensed businesses, "
provided the location was right and you have the appropriate skills to practise." Pick a licensed area which is right, get the appropriate skills and you too could have a taxi licence!!!
There is no artificiality about number restriction - It's either there (really) or it's not!
Whot you don't get is reality. You are well known for your dislike of Edinburgh Council and unfortunately keep allowing this hatred to cloud your opinion of everything. Is there an alternative to councils? It is a common saying that if you put 10 taxi drivers in the same room you'll get 11 opinions. This might be a problem were they to replace councils.
PH are exploiting a loophole and trying to take over the taxi market, would your efforts not be better targetted towards fighting them rather than trying to help them destroy the business you claim to work in?
As for Diesel, all he's doing is telling what your infantile rantings if true would produce.
There doesn't have to be an alternative to councils, other than councils that actually do the bidding of the electorate.
I have nothing against councils per se, just this new labour fascist one.
There's not a single councillor elected to CEC who gained any more than one in six of the electorate to vote for them. 5 out of six electors did not vote for their councillor. Quite a democracy we live in isn't it.
And, its not just the taxi trade which suffers, we've experienced failings in every department form social work (incompetence costs lives), Finance (can't even collect council tax, nor pay benefits properly), Transport (gross waste of taxpayers cash on sham consultations), Environment (Can't even organisation proper refuse collections), the list is endless for a failing council where the elected officials continually fail to hold unelected to account for their failings.
We've even recently seen the disgraceful Shami Khan play the race card because, once again, his family couldn't stop itself falling foul of the law.
Until this nonsense is sorted, I will continue to criticise, as does just about every one else who has the wit to know what they're up to and cares about it.
The reason trade is so bad can assuredly be laid primarily at the council's door. If you can't see this, then you are a fool.
As for infantile rantings. Really.
Take a look at your ravings, then look at mine. If you think your imbecilic meanderings are God's gift to reason and logic, then it only goes to show that you don't have to be bright to be a cabby? And, that's probably why we're in the mire.
