Maybe we will all just have to work a few hours longer to meet our bills. Thankfully we have that option.

Some down here don't!!! I know quite a few drivers who already work anything up to 18 hrs a day.

Firstly, I represented the trade, and delivered what I was asked to by the people who elected me ....................... I have not done that for some time.

Secondly, are you really so stupid to not understand that the people renting the vehicles are doing so to people who can't afford or obtain a plate of their own. If every driver was given a plate I would imagine that they'd have to buy a vehicle, not everyone can do that for many different reasons.

You then go into a rant about recession and then encourage people to go into debt to get their own cab ............................. I say rent off those who have the financial risk and then when the economic climate is better, or indded if the economy ever recovers, come back and try and make an argument.

Do you still not mind paying more for a premium service or waiting in a queue to get it?

The driver is in debt to the owner by paying a rental in an attempt to secure his employment. This costs him more than it would to own and operate his own vehicle. He works the hours to suite the owner. His private car is another cost added to his working arrangement. The driver can't pick an choose his own hours or the security of his employment. He is totally at the mercy of the owner and his little illusion.

No wonder they dumped you GA, STUPID just doesn't cover it.

The driver Hires a Taxi.

The owner doesn't pay the driver holiday pay or sick pay, or give him a pension, but he does charges a rental that takes a percentage of his takings and this rental should be at a free market rate.

A £300 a week rental, you have got to be having a fecking laugh ....

Chop a £100 off the above and let the drivers taxi double as his private car and then add the flexibility of his working hours around his family commitments - it's a different ballgame - Muppet

Rentals here are £150 a week all in for a 24 hour car.

One of our guys had his radiator go on him, Sooo he rented an E7 for Saturday night................ £75

Maybe those folks then need to wake up and live within their means.

If Edinburgh can charge £300 a week and people are paying it then they must be making it ................ simple fact.

People seem to think that the whole world is like their own area and that people should understand every detail of every daily occurance .................... and when they are told that peoples experiences are different they berate their comments as being stupid.

The fact is that, and will always remain, that a person can only charge for something what people are willing to pay ....................... and that goes for the £120 a week office radio rental or the £300 it costs to rent a Edinburgh HC.

Finally, how many of the people renting in Edinburgh are able and willing to buy their own vehicle .............................. because here in Gateshead more people are renting HC now than before deregulation.

Some drivers prefer renting Skull, down here there are firms with a good radio circuit but also the rank work is dire, it pays the drivers to rent a car and work the radio insted of being sat on a worthless rank waiting for a punter who's going up the road for £2.00.

Rental down here varies from £205 to £265 depending on who you drive for, like I mentioned the rank work is not worth talking about so a circuit is the only way to go.
