Metcalfe denied murdering father-of-six Mahmood Ahmed, 36, from Keighley, whose body was found in a ditch by a man walking his dog at Slack Lane, Oakworth, in April, last year. Following a two week trial it took the jury at Bradford Crown Court six hours to find Metcalfe guilty by a majority verdict of 11 to 1.
Trafford licensing has had numerous enquiries about this gentlemen and are quite distressed that people are ringing up accusing them of licensing rapists. The Rapist is one Murtaza Mateen from Lime crescent, Old Trafford, which is a stone's throw from Manchester United Football ground.
In a statement issued after the case family of Mr Ahmed said: "He left behind a wife, six children, elderly parents and was the eldest of seven brothers. "A dedicated family man and sole breadwinner, his loss has left a massive void. His entire life revolved around his children. "Driving them to and from school was part of his daily routine. Any loss is hard to stomach, but the horrific nature of the hammering, after the stabbing, has left a permanent scar that will never heal. "We tried to shield his children, but as the news got out they asked, 'Why was our father hit on the head with a hammer?' We have no answer."
During the two-week trial, the court was told that Mr Ahmed was stabbed in the chest and then repeatedly struck with a hammer after he collected a late-night fare outside the Merry Melon flower shop in Oakworth Road, Keighley. Forensic evidence linking Metcalfe to the crime was found in the fleece worn by Mr Ahmed. Metcalfe, who was living at his sister's home in Parkwood Rise, Keighley, at the time of the killing, declined to give evidence at his trial. Defence counsel Neil Davey QC told the jury that someone else was originally charged with the murder before police realised they had the wrong man.
